With so many makes and models of kites and boards out there it's pretty frustrating to know what to get without trying the kit for yourself.

I know several of the different kite companies/resellers have organised demo days which is great, but I'd really like to be able to ride one brand, come back in and then try another brand to feel the difference; to be able to try different boards with different kites would be awesome. It's all about buying kit that suits your own personal style and requirements.

If you are just starting out and want some lessons; which schools are there in Perth? What can you learn with them? Where do they teach?

Having all these people in one place would be a fantastic way to not only show what is available in Perth, but it would also help promote the sport, show the importance of safety and highlight the need for respect so that we can maintain access to our beaches.

It would be great if we could get a Kite Show/Festival organised to run over a few days at the start of the season; where as many of the manufacturers/resellers/shops/schools etc could come together at a beach location and make all their wares available for people to try.

I'm prepared to put in some initial leg work to see how feasible it would be to get something up and running. But for something like this to work it needs the support of the kite industry and the support of the kiters. So it would be cool to get some feedback/interest from

a) The kite industry (manufacturers/resellers/shops/schools)
b) The kiters

Drop me an email through my username if you are interested and hopefully we could get something organised.

Safe kiting everyone!

Alex

Brilliant Alex
Fantastic idea. 100% behind you on this one.
If kiters show enough interest then it has to be in manufacturers own interest to back it. I get the feeling kite manufacturers encourage brand division. With nos. & organisation we could force the issue - demo kites from EVERY maker - how good would that be. Im for it & I'll help - no problem.

Hey Guys,

Auswind spent a fair amount of money on two people in a bus towing a trailer with 17 latest model kites and 13 latest model boards all over the country a couple of years back.

They visited every state except NT and Tas. And funny enough the reception from most of the locals was luke warm at most venues. Many kiters just wanted to go ride their own kites and boards, despite most kites of the demo being inflated ready to use.

Excuses like, my safety isn't compatible, I've only got an hour so I want to make the most of the time I gear I know, maybe next time (at a one day only demo!) etc etc.

It's a great idea in theory, however practice is a totally different beast. I'm all for it .... again, as I like to have informed opinions of other brands of kites and boards.

Good luck, I'm happy to participate if you get enough interest.

if a bus/trailer turned up at my local beach with 17 new kites, and 13 new boards and even pumped the kites up for me i would be totally stoked and would try evreything at least twice.

I think its a great idea.
Kites (for me) cost an absolute fortune and when i part with hard earned cash (that i am told could be better spent on new kitchen appliances) i want to know what i get is exactly what i am after.

If theres a kite show thingo going on i would definatly be into it and would offer time, enthusiasm and sweat to help.
Count me in....

Thanks for the support guys, this is fantastic!

I've already had responses from some of the other kite/board companies who are keen to be involved, so it's looking pretty good that we may be able to get something going.

Will keep you informed of how it is progressing.

Kitehard,
Your roadtrip that you described sounded like the perfect working holiday for a couple of windfreaks.

Fantastic Idea!
What a bummer the Auswind trip didn't work!!! I'm as confused about that one as you kitehard.
If this is organised, please let there be plenty of advertising.
Seabreeze banner, Reg's wind report, posters in kite shops, etc. You may even get a few volunteers like myself to help if given plenty of notice.
Go for it!

Awesome idea. Any kiter in his right mind would be all for it. Get it organised with the manufacturers and the response will be huge.

Sounds like a fantastic idea.
With the Auswind a couple of years back was luke warm because kiting was just realy starting to get popular, now its turned into the hottest sport on the planet, and I would love to test out some different brands of kite just to see if they live up to the hype because it no good once the thing is in the boot of your car.
