Have got to get more..more...MORE variety of kites.

I went out to 3 places today, Airborne, WIndforce and SurfnSail and everywhere stocked F-One, Slingshot, and Airush Gear. I still cant find a place in perth that sells Naish Gear. Can anyone help? sites and locations are very appreciated...I have lots of money and no kites to buy.

Plus some info on the new 08 ranges for a semi-beginner would be nice, I want a kite with a nice wind range, good depower and something that looks...spiffy.

Thats a bit of a contradiction if i ever heard one? Do want a kite that looks like a seagull or do you want that's "spiffy"?

Check out the sponsers link on the front page and remember to support and buy local.

dude i am only stirring. Buy the kite YOU want not what all the forum pushers tell you to. Everyone has their own ideas, then again everyone is also an expert.

new's, rrd's, royal's, flexi's 2008s all look and perform well, at least try a couple of demo's to see for yourself.

dude

he clearly says "semi-beginner" and your advising demoing? lol.

Do u recommend people demoing before getting there first kite?

Regarding the variety thing infinidie. You end up with a situation where shops stock like 10 brands and have little knowledge and support. You go to a shop like WSP, Windforce and airborne. they might only stock 1-2 brands but they frikken back them up, with spareparts and really good hands on knowledge of the products. Shops dont make anything on spareparts and often the shops that actually back there products up end up supplying parts to customers with other brands kites because they cant get any service from where they brought it from.

Flogging anything u can is really short minded. The shops that survive are the ones with core brands.

not the ones who jump on the bandwagons.

ozone, flexifoil, new, royal. there all fad brands. Few years time they will more then likely be done and dusted.

back to North, Cabrinha, Slingshot, Airush, Naish.

Carb not sure how you can say Flexi and Ozone are fad brands, Got my first Flex in 1996 and they had been around a bit by then as for Ozone they are from para gliding back ground and have also been around 15 plus yrs... i do not see either of them as fad brands...

As for NEW they will not be a fad brand if we as West Australians support a local guy, his company will do well... and i am 100percent sure that if you buy a NEW kite you will get great repairs service and warranty as he is trying to build a NEW business... do not suffer tall poppy syndrome and cut the guy down with out giving him a chance...

yeah imo you should demo as many kites as you can before you hand over your hard earned cash just because the kite you want seems to be the latest and greatest..

and give a local a go.. get down to Choice and fly a NEW...

used the sigma kites over Euro summer and do not rate them... just my opinion.

posko a fad is something that becomes popular quickly then quickly fades.

who was flying storm 1,2,3's any of the fusions or the strikes in perth. was there even a dealer in Perth before last year?no.

lets wait for the fade.

and ozone. they are already over the hill in the kite market.

i recon this is handy to make a list of what places stock which brands. It would save a lot of looking around if someone is dead set on something, which people tend to be.I dont have a clue, but i thought it would be a good idea. lol.

Its not his first kite. He bought one of his first kites from me and yes i think semi-beginners should demo kites. Best to do it with one of the "unlimited lessons" offers.

Plain and simple - Flexifoil make rock solid and quality products. I started using their products in the UK when I started land boarding. It was a natural progression for me to try Flexi water kites and I have to say that I have not been disappointed yet. Its not a fad at all Carb your mistaken, word spreads quick when a great kite hits the market how many fkn Mazda 3's are on the road its obscene.

I think its quite funny how people talk as if Perth is the Hub of the universe - HELLO we are probably next to Tajikistan in terms of numbers of kites sold.

Hey INfiniDIE go see choicey and have a good look at the Slingshot REV - it is great success very nice I like

Carbine...

You sometimes show how little you know.

Flexifoil have been around since 1972 I believe, making traction and stunt kites.

Just because they're not so common in Perth, have you ever been to the UK?

I went to Windforce, saw a Rev 9m for $1599...thought about buying it then and there, but sometimes waiting a while is best.
Went to surfnsail, the dude there recommended some Gannon guy at mullas beach who does lesssons and is demoing Sigma Series for Hold The Lines and the F-One Bandit for SurfnSail.

Theres also the choice of Second Hand, but even though mostly everyone is genuine and doesn't seem to want to rip fellow kiters off, I still get a few qualms about 2nd hand things i will be trusting life and limb on.

Thanks for the great response lads, I dont make choices based on what forum posters say, but they offer valid points in the selection process. So I can think "oh yeah Meerkat said it was probably a good idea to demo it first"

i know more than you think brooksy ;)

Were/Are yoyo's a fad? how long have they been around, longer then flexi i bet.

I have been to the UK about 2 years ago, and they werent very big where i went. Went to 4 shops not one sold flexi, only place selling flexi was an adventure store that sold power kites. I was in the south, maybe up north its more popular? But sure now it prolly is a lot more popular. Wouldn't that be kind of faddy given how long flexi has been around for?

Anyways my point was that shops stocking heaps of brands isnt the answer especially when there are brands popping up and dieing every 5 minutes, or atleast having their 5 minutes of fames. Some shops actually back a brand and stick with them in the long run, quite a few other shops just try and cash in on what is in fashion (a fad).

Im not trying to say that the brands i mentioned make bad products. Actually im pretty sure all of them are friken schweet! Past history suggests that companys with <5% market share dont last that long, especially brands that are stocked by shops that dont provide core support.

Carbine is just super subjective, but hey, that's what forums are for.

I read a recent report(KIte World) about local UK kite scene and it said there are several Flexi Ion2s at most beaches. I think it was talking North West.

I do alot of trolling reviews and reading mags and Flexi kites are pretty much the most consistently positively reviewed product. I wanna bring home an Ion2 and a Nobile555.

If you have the scope to look back over the years, you will find that brands have come and gone acording to performance, or just plain old hype.
In the beggining there were 2 major brands and nothing else, one has just about disapeared, the other missed the last great trend and is deperate to claw back market share.
A bigger brand can stuff up pretty badly, and then they still have to push the product out of the door.
Thing is, haw long are you going to stick with that new kite or board, half way into the season its old in kiting standards, so doesnt realy matter what you buy, as long as it realy delivers.

thats just the start. If i had known you had that kind of dosh i would have charged you triple for the rodeo.

When you get your new gear remember to head down this way for some "out-of-town" kiting. Can give you a couple of free pointers if still need em.
