Have a few options available to me at the moment, and I'm wondering how the wind in Sydney compares to Perth? I'm in Sydney at the moment, and I'm trying to decide where I'd like to spend the summer (not based solely on kiting, but it's definitely a factor). Cheers!

There is no comparison. I grew up in Sydney, in Scum Valley (aka Bondi Beach), and moved to Perth.

WA has better waves (except for in Perth where they are only good enuff for gutsliders to get off in), and agreed...better babes.

As for the wind; it seems that most places are banned in Sydney except for Botany Bay (which is the ASSHOLE OF SYDNEY), and it is lacklustre most of the time anyway (with the exception of the occasional southerly buster). I'm no wind expert tho. I'm now acknowledging that I'm no longer a surfer and more of a kiter, hence prior wind knowledge of Sydney is 'non-kiter' knowledge.

I guess the question is...Put up with hassled waves, stuck up chicks, expensive rent, attitude, inner suburbs, **** kiting, better city waves, btw i'm drunk, traffic, pissed wind, and sunset over a land mass, or move to the Best Place on Earth to Live?

Ant.

Wind's up.....what work?

Well, Poor Relative, I know the wind in Perth is crap at the moment, which is why I'm in Sydney in the first place. I've lived in Perth for the past 5 months, just been here two weeks...

Another part of it that I didn't think about before is how much time I'd get on the water here as opposed to in Perth. Here, working in a school, I get off around 3:15, and living in Glenhaven I'm told it'll take the better part of an hour to get to the coast, much less a decent kiting spot where kiting isn't banned. So, we're talking 2 hours, going up to three once daylight savings comes in. In Perth, I'd get off at 1:30 and live within easy walking distance of Melville Beach, probably 25 minutes away from Woodies (my two fav spots), so it'll be heaps of time on the water...

To the Sydneysiders around, what are a few decent spots closest to Glenhaven/Castle Hill area? Flat water preferred, if possible...thanks again!

Do you not know where you are?. Be patient....You are in one of the most reliable states in the WORLD for wind.

Obviously your interst in Sydney is for other reasons than kiting. Because if you are considering weighing up the two in comparison, from purely a kiting perspective...especially as a teacher, you will find yourself crying many an afternoon into the steering wheel of your over used car in traffic if you choose Sydney. Cut your water time in half if you go away from the West. Then cut the number of days by half again and you might come close to the number of good days you will get. If you have a job in Perth, knuckle down, save your butt off because this side of the country is where it is ALL happening this summer.....H2O Games, National Titles, etc.etc.

Then again, that's only in my opinion.

Thank you hirschausen for a useful post. I know WA is excellent, just wanting to know how Sydney compares, that's all. From my point of view, it doesn't really matter too much which side of the continent I'm on for the winter, because the wind's not too flash on both sides. Summer though...thanks again for the post, and anyone else with some input would be great.

Hold on, I get it, what you're all really saying is that WA is very good! In that backwards talk where you say the opposite of what you mean! That's it, I'm coming over. 5 weeks from Wednesday I'll be there. Anyone got somewhere I can live?

I grew up in Perth and just moved to Sydney. If you want to kite go to Perth. Travellers come from all over the world to kitesurf in Perth. the wind is consistant and regular.

Despite what the others say, Perth chicks suck. inbred.

Hmm - i'm from Perth, and lived in Sydney for a couple of years, and got the impression that chix over in Sydney were:

a) Stuck up
b) Looking to empty your wallet at first glance
c) Not interested once they found out you weren't a lawyer/dentist/something that requires an expensive itailan suit/...

of course thats some serious generalisation there, and i'm sure not all chix in syd are like that, but thats all i saw - maybe i should have visited some of those dodgy back packer joints... nah.

Haven't met any Perth chicks yet, hope to when I get there. Sydney chicks are pretty much like what Robbo says, in my opinion, and I went out with one for about 6 years. 6 years of:

a) having to be good enough
b) having an empty wallet
c) having to wear the right clothes

So yeah... I'm not bitter... at all...

Perth chicks in general are pretty decent-looking and acting. Don't have too much experience in Sydney yet, but the Sydneysiders have a pretty high benchmark to beat.

By the way, Chopper, if you like "fully sick" cars, you'd have to leave Australia to find them...

We're not all bad - we're just drawn that way. Not all Sydney girls are conieving, pretentious, and money hungry - a few of us are self-sufficient, unpretentious, and quite well put together! (alas, those attributes scare most single guys). You've obviously been scoping the wrong hunting grounds - take off the beer goggles, grow some conjolies, and you mightn't get ***** whipped so easily.
Happy hunting lads
