Where in or around Perth can you kite in The Easterly winds of winter?
Is South better than Northern areas?
Or, should they just be given a miss?
It's a bit of a frustrating time of year for all I guess.

Other Options:

  • South Perth in NE-E but stay out of the ferry channels

  • Peli Pt in ESE-SSE but don't launch in the CALM Reserve past the fence

  • With a jetski and a buddy @ 4 Mile Reef (offshore from Triggs-Hillary's)

  • Rotto

Hi Ian...hope you age going well.

Why didn't I think of getting on the ferry one of these mornings before. Work I guess.

What is the best bay in an easterly over there? Would you choose N or S of the island depending if NE or SE?

I had 15min. on a 14m today....too late.

Thompson Bay is great in E - but you need to keep clear of the ferries obviously - there's a really nice little wave on the sandbar NE of the jetty (can't remember the name of the break)

NE is directly onshore @ Thompson but is sideshore South of Natural Jetty. Some of the other Northern Bays are also workable.

SE Stickland Bay is side shore but it can switch offshore quickly if it gets too much East in it. Many of the other Southern Bays are workable in E-SE.

one other hazard in thompson bay is the number of boat moorings. a downed kite can easily end up snagged one one of these...

break is called Transit and would love to kite it on the right conditions

I'd guess with a jetski and a buddy you could kite anywhere

Thanks for the info.

It is awefully cold and the windspeed is deceptive (meaning it feels stronger than it is). Man I need 15 knots badly. My hat is keeping me toasty in the 8-12 knots, but I don't think I'll be going to Rotto while it is so frigid..................brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Strap on some wheels and go along the Attadale foreshore. Perfect conditions for it today...you kite, get thrills and enjoy the beauty. Not enough to be on the water with anything less than a zeppelin. The Easterlies this year have been light but steady....and the weather magic

Just don't get eaten by the dogs.
