Was at melville today, peacefully enjoying the tranquility of being one of two kiters, approx 1km apart. There were a few windsurfers around, but were out considerably deeper, and miles away from myself or the other kiter. Neither I, or the other guy (from what i saw) were even in the vicinity of any windsurfers at any stage of the session. This leads me to the question...
What reason could a windsurfer possibly have to sail right at me,stop about 2 metres away, give me a pathetic, effeminate attempt at the evils, and proceed to turn around and sail off. WTF??

The only answer i could come up with is that he was coming over to check me out.... and then when he noticed my overtly masculine demeanor , coupled with the realisation that my rashie is blue, instead of the purple which he had previously assumed, he got annoyed and gave me the evils.

What else could it possibly have been??

Yea, maybe it was a little too tranquil.

Nonetheless, it was kinda weird.

Guessing the wind was as **** at melville as it was at woodies today. If thats the case he's probably some weird 60yr old formula board rider who rocks up at 10am waiting for a 5knot breeze to come through to ride his 11m sail and 200L board.

Don't get into a conversation with blokes like this, you will be drowned in techo bs about the latest advancements in wide sock luffs and anti ventalating cavitation fin avoidance systems(lol?). Get your kite looping and get the **** out of there quick.

were u kiting at the car park? Saw a bloke kiting the car park today.

If you were, the weird looks is because thats the windsurfing spot. Don't go out there. Go down to where the beach is.

Why are windsurfers so angry? well at least some of them. I've had one guy gybe with one hand and with the oither point his finger at me and abuse me for nothing. from what i know its always windsurfers doing the instigating being overprotective of a patch of ****ty flat water. just cuz they were their first doesnt mean they own it, if there are new windsurfers do they have to stay downwind?

BTW b4 u guys all go nutz this is like 1% of the windsurfing population and i got nothing against the sport just some of the guys need to chill out.

Depending on the wind direction, Majestic is another good spot. I wouldn't say that there are 'windsurf' or 'kitesurf' spots - if it works it works, just follow the rules of the road and stay respectful. South side of the river works nicely on Westerly and North Westerly. Peli Point is best on a South West, where the shallows also seperate the polies and the kities. Plenty of room for all. Just look out for the beginners/school who are generally closer to the beach. And don't start - we were all beginners once. All too easily forgotten. Peace and wind.

Umm no, windsurfing car park is like way out of bounds. Its totally a windsurfing spot. Try rigging up in the car park, I bet you will be told where to go before you even get your kite out of the bag.

North westerly isnt a good idea at melville either because if you end up downwind you will be in the windsurfing area and theres no where to bring your kite in.

Thats a negative on the car park btw, both of us kiters were way to the right.

But even if we were, spacemonkey and Lookup are right..... why is there a need for conflict?? Common courtesy, or a freindly reminder is all it takes.

Windsurfers who deliberately "cramp the style" of us newb kiters are merely perpetuating an already negative stereotype, and imho, are asking for trouble.

Like many, ive got nothing against windsurfers in general, but itd be cool if we could kite in peace.
