Hi guys

Im from NZ and heading to Port Douglas for 8 days over easter and wondering what the winds like that time of year?
What sizes kites are best?
I know theres 4 Mile beach but are there any other good place's to go? Im staying at Palm Cove but keen to trip around a bit to find some cool places

Looking forward to it

you do need to worry about the stingers over here; they can kill you.
palm cove is a fair drive from port douglas, yorkeys knob is closer for a kite. bring your biggest kite at that time of year

These are not the stingers you're used to anywhere else in the world. No one swims on that area of the coastline from Nov to April. They get Box Jellyfish and Irikunji. Both are deadly and less than an inch in size so you can't see them.

I suggest you google them and chat to local before entering the water or you may find yourself in hospital.

I was at 4 mile beach last year in April.

12 m kite was fine.

Stinger Suit is recommended.
You get them everywhere in Surf and Dive shops up there.

Not many stingers left by June/July .
The Crocs have eaten them all by then.
But don't worry you wont see the crocs cause the waters usually pretty silted up (muddy)
Wind is very good SE trades most days.

no stingers should be left up there by then, all depending on water temperature and start of trade winds kicking in..

Contact Bretto from Windswell- he is a champ and runs tours off Port Douglas- nice off shore kiting up there

windswell.com.au/

also check our website for spots in North queensland if you are around longer..

winds north of Port Douglas can be cranking due to Tradies coming close the the coast up there.

I reckon around the 20knts most of the times in June/July.
10m shld be a fun kite up there.
Come to Lizard Island with us if you want the 30knts Trade Winds..

Hang loose

Port and Yorkeys are (nearly) the same distance away from Palm Cove. I go to either beach and it takes me 20 min's to Yorkeys and 30 min's to Port. No big deal eh...

Cheers
