Hi FNQ kiteboarders,
I am going to be up in Port Douglas this Thursday for a week!!.
I see the graph is saying 15 to 20 somtimes bellow 15.How acurate has that prediction been latley? I am getting a bit worried that it may be less than 15knts I realy dont want to bring anything bigger than a 12m. what sizes are most of you crew using latley?

Im so pumped for some solid riding time!

look forward to seeing you guys out on the water and in the pub.

Cheers
Luke

Unless something changes in a hurry there will be no wind up here for some time (Sunday at the earliest). When the bereau say 15/20 rarely will it be kiteable at Port, for anything worthwhile we really want a forecast of 20/25 or even more. Just watch for the next reasonable high coming across into the bight, good luck, i hope we get some wind soon too!!

they have been having some good days at port but.......
its often less windy there ....
I would definitely take a 16 or 17
I always ride a bigger kite there so i can get out early

like sunday i rode from 12pm on my 17 fuel and everyone else couldn't stay up wind - then at 2.30 it went to 18 kts

so be warned leave your big kite at home and you will regret it

- ps ask brett from wndswell to run a reef trip - you need 6 people

Hey Bruce,
Was there anybody kiting at yorkys yesterday?
The wind seems to have died in the ass going off this site.
Please tell me its not true!
Can you kite Yorkys when they predict max 15 Knts for the day?

Looks like I may have to hit Green for a day(the Island that is)

Typical of the tropics

Hey Slave,

If you have wheels, it is well worth the drive to Archer Point. It is about 10 minutes south of Cooktown and quite a reasonable drive. Archer has the strongest wind and the best kiting conditions in all of Queensland. Tina and I visited a few times and it blew it's ya yas off each time.

Also has the closest thing to surf in all of NQ with shoulder to head high rollers coming in along the rocky point. If it says 15 knots at Port, it will be 25 knots at Archer. Usually 10 knots stronger.

Its worth the drive!

Good trip!

Thanks Dazza,
Sounds like it may be a goa! I do have a hire car not a FWD though do you think it will make it?. Can you remember how long it took you to get there? Sounds like a mission might be easyer to go over to green. Im only there for a week I dont want to be spending the whole time driving as Im by myself.

Cheers for the help.

Looking at the forecast, Saturday onwards looks good. Most people up here tend to ride 10 to 14m most of the time. Hope you score some good wind (means I get to ride as well)

Cheers

Hey Windslave, you're not the only one heading to Port Douglas tomorrow. Me and two mates are flying up from Melbourne in the morning, and staying 10 days. We'll be on 12m Shockwaves and an 11m Instinct if its blowing, or 18m's (Torch, X4 and Rhino) if its light. Come and say hi!

We might follow Brucex's advice and chat to Brett at Windswell... if not a reef trip, at least one or two downwinders. Happy to join up with you , and anyone else for that matter, if you're keen.

See ya on the water!

Hey 'slave,

I just checked out Google Earth and it is about 100km as the crow flies from Port. It will take you about 2 hours cause you have to go up through the hills and through the inland way. You don't need a 4WD but that could also depend on if it has been raining heaps.

We went there in the old bus and had no problems at all. 50% of the road was tar and 50% was graded dirt but that was back in 2003, and I suspect the road would have been finished by now all the way to Cooktown.

We absolutely loved Cooktown as a great place to visit and was one of the friendliest and and best places we stayed in our whole trip around Oz. We stayed in the caravan Park on the edge of town as you first drive in. It's only a 10 minute drive to the turnoff to Archer Point from the Cara park and then another 20 minutes or so down the dirt track to Archer Point.

There was nothing at all at the Point so anything you need, you need to bring in with you. Great spot to camp, grassy right next to the beach.

Just be a little wary of the logs with eyes but aside from that, you'll be right. Like I said, windiest place in QLD. I was lit on my 11.5 big time when we visited.

Your other alternative to hang with Bretto from Windswell is also a good idea, but take the reef trip cause the wind in Port usually sucks

Have a good trip.

Good winds,

I am heading up to Port Douglas in September. What is a good site to use to check out the wind conditions? Staying at 4 mile beach. Thanks.
