No need to retire, you can do this on days when you are waiting for the wind to come up, or early in the morning or later at night when the winds are lighter, it is a low wind activity.
Sure teaches you fine kite control skills though.
Its interesting that whenever a good kitesurfer has noticed me flying a sport kite and has asked for a go, I can tell that they would progress very quickly!

Hey Steve

What model would you recomend for an allrounder? Something that can fly in almost no wind but can also do nice tricks?

bearing in mind that as soon as the wind kicks over 10 knots i will be heading for the water...

I fly a slingy b4 foil for fun in almost no wind.. but it is relay for snow/land and im getting a bit bored with it...

Cheers

Definately below 10 knots, ideal wind strength for tricking with sport kites is around 4 to 6 knots, a bit lighter if you have a special low wind version of a sport kite.

It is very rewarding, if you are persistent and patient with yourself, these are all 2 line kites.
Lines are part of the deal too, ideal lengths for tricking is 50 to 80 feet, or 15 to 20M, 25 to 50kg breaking strain.
Something in the Benson or Prism ranges is ideal, personally I prefer Bensons, each one is hand made in the UK by Tim himself. A lot of Prism stuff is now coming from China, still very good but not as nicely balanced or refined as a Benson, except for upper end stuff which is made in the US by the staff and owner of Prism.
