Yesterday WAKSA received and accepted the resignation of Ian Young from his position as the Vice President of the WA Kite Surfing Association. With the new season approaching, his personal and business commitments are such that he is unable to continue to donate the massive amount of time that he has always been willing to, to ensure the success of our sport.

Although disappointed with what is clearly our loss, the WAKSA committee members have all expressed individual and joint appreciation for the long-standing contribution that Ian has made as one of the founders and key members of the kiting community, not only in WA and Australia, but Internationally. His drive, energy, and commitment will be greatly missed by WAKSA.

As everyone knows, being a WAKSA committee member is a voluntary task, and we are stoked that Ian has been able to take such an active role for such a long time.

Ian, we would all like to wish you the best with your business for this coming season, and for your role as the Director of the Gravity Games that will take place mid October. Your contribution has made an enormous difference.

See you on the water mate.

WAKSA Committee, on behalf of the WA Kiting community.

PS – to everyone who reads this message, please add any thanks and comments. Cheers.

Yep I'll agree to that Ian has done so much for the community (and still continues to) and has gone way past his calling.

Ian,

You will be missed on the WAKSA committee, your input has always been above and beyond.

We will have to dig up a few special projects to get you involved in

Thanks for every thing you have done, since the begining.

A lot of guys that have taken up kiting in the last 4 or 5 years would not realise how much more vision Ian had about the sport than the rest of us. The equipment Ian first used (prior to even Wipika being available) was amazing, non water relauchable and not super easy to use. Then along came the Wipika Classic and the rest of us slowly followed. Guys starting now have it easy.

Ian, you should post some of the history of kiting in WA with a few photos of kites like the Kite Ski and the 10.5m C-Quad, show people what they missed out on.

Thanks,

Ian Grose

Now comes the summer of too much fun for mr Young, looking forward to some sessions at secret spots with a few cold ones watching the sun set over the greatest ocean on earth.

Thanks for all those kind words :-)

I believe that the work of AKSA and WAKSA is critcial to the development of our sport, safety and continued site access.

Although I have stepped down as a WAKSA committee member I intend to continue to be actively invloved, particularly in safety and competition aspects.

After seeing the flaming Ben got with images of the past I'm not sure I'd want to publish any historical shots of KiteSki, Peter Lynn C-Quad, 2-line foils on reel bars, etc :-)

Cheers,
Ian Young

Very best of wishes for your future Kitesurfing ventures/advertures Ian. You've done an amazing job with your contributions to the sport and through what you've put into WAKSA. It has certainly set a positive example of what one individual can contribute.
