Rhino 07 12m overflying

Hi all,

I just bought a second hand rhino and I am having a few teething problems.

I took it to weyba lake and found it was overflying quite a lot at the zenith and all of a sudden it would fall back in the wind roll over - leading towards me then flipping over on to its back completing the rotation and dropping into the powerzone. at which point i pulled the safety. I put this down to crappy gusty winds. (the kite was fully depowered as it was the first time I had flown this particular kite)

However, the exact same thing happened today at cotton tree, kite went to zenith in good 18knot winds and just fell out of the sky for no apparent reason. again the kite was depowered as the winds were pretty hot.

Has anyone else had this experience as it is quite daunting to have 12m powering up directly in the window just because the kite decides it wants to flip over.

It did also give me an incentive to undertake my first self rescue too..

Weren't you going to buy an Ozone?

Only advice I can give is to keep backline tension on when the kite is at zenith.....or get rid of it and get yourself something more stable.

Don't know about the 07 mod but the 08 mod ROCKS, check out the north web site and get the proper info on the line lengths. I'm prity sure they have them on display some where. Hope this helps mate.

Just don't depower it as much... my rebel used to do this aswell but that was only because I had too much depower...

Grog,

I have 07 9m & 14m Rhinos and don't have this problem. What is your fifth line doing when this happens? The fifth line may be too short between the spot where the front lines split and the kite attachment point. Definitely find out what the fifth line length should be from a North dealer.

hi guys,

had a great day on the rhino today after reducing the amount of depower. kite flew far better.

I am still not convinced the 5th line is correct and will be sorting lengths out tomorrow.

I must say when this kite is locked in it is an absolute beauty (12m, 07 rhino that is.)


biggest regret is not bringing my 10m (OR) with me as the 15(Ozone) has sat in the bag for the whole holiday.

anyone know any mods for stopping the kite inverting? cross line or mega inflation? (This happened when I dumped the kite......screwed the lines and all that so lonbg walk of shame....)

I started to have the same problem with my Rino 07 9m before I got rid of it. The line lengths were all identical. My theory was that the front leader lines had stretched and the kite was riding too much on the fifth line. It certainly looked that way, there seemed a little slack on the front lines. Those kites are so sensitive to line length because the 5th line is helping to support the leading edge.
