Went to Rotto with a mate on his yacht on Monday.

The plan was to kite the flat water inside the natural limestone jetty at the mouth of Thompsons Bay.

Got over there and the breeze came in at about 1. It was a bit light, so we went the onshore side of the jetty, and couldn't really stay upwind.

That didn't stop me mate Blu running down the jetty, around the marker and into the boat channel, despite the fact he couldn't stay up wind.

I kept kiting and watching him, knowing what was coming.

Sure enough, after dueling with a few big Bertrams in the channel, he ended up washed up on that small island across the channel from the natural jetty. It looked pretty funny with a yellow Cabrinha O2 12m flying above the island.

Anyway, I did the righty and went and rescued him in the tender. That would have loooked pretty funny too, with two guys in an 8ft Zodiac with a kite flying above it. (He didn't want to try and land his kite on the lime stone island)

So, if anyone saw the antics, that's what happenned.

Conclusion - Rotto kiting seems to be a waste of time.

Any good, safer places to go at Rotto at all?? We were thinking about down Strickos, Parker Pt way, but the dead whale kept us away from that area this time.

More wind at Rotto than Perth on Monday.

I've had a couple of good kites offshore side of natural jetty - but obviously you need someone there with a boat to keep an eye on you.

Salmon Bay.

Yeah, there was more wind, that's why we went.

It was good fun on the off shore side, but the marginal wind, and families and fishos close to the shore, made it less than relaxing, not to mention the stink boat traffic.

Is Salmon Bay Sth side or Nth side?

Rotto has good potential on the right days .
I lived and worked there for a couple of summers so have spent some time there .
I would be happy to show you the spots if you want to take me over on the yacht
All the good spots demand good skills as the bombout zones are small and sharp .

MikeN. Nice try mate, but my buddy has a kid and trips are few and far between unfortunately.

That's what I thought, way, way too much sharp limestone everywhere.
