I recall someone telling me (at the time of the race to Rotto) that Ian Young said the wind at Rotto read stronger on the graphs than the mainland as the meter was located on a hill at Rotto; not because the wind was actually blowing any stronger.

Anyone got any ideas as to whether there is any truth in this? As I will have access to wind reports on phone thru WAP whilst at Rotto, will be keen to know if the graphs show 25-30 knotts of Rotto and 18-23 at Ocean Reef, whether it is more likely Rotto is blowing 18-23 at surface/kite level.

don't think it would make a huge difference if it was on a hill or not....in theory it would, but even then it would depend on the wind incidence angle to the hill, relative humidity, time of day, atmospheric pressure, dew point, atmospheric density, the partial pressure of water at the surface , planks constant, wet and dry bulb temperatures, scynoptic pressure patterns, the coriolis effect, localised micro climates , intergalacitc and solar radiation patterns, tidal flows, and the current geospatial positioning of the space time continueum... i recon less than a knot or two...

Yeah Bolgo,

only needed the 8 at PP today - although Pork could manage earlier in the morning with the 12. Not sure whether the wind was lighter or whether to difference was in the kilos!!!

If it stays like this I'll only be kiting in the morning at Rotto.

I think the Rotto wind is at least 15% stronger than the wind on the coast. As the wind nears the shore it comes into land effect and also the offshores further inland start to push back against the onshore further reducing the strength. wow that sounded slightly nerdy!!!! Its my theory and I'll stick to it
