highly unlikely.... have taken my zephyr to Balikpapan a couple of times, there is just nothing there. have sailed in Brunei many years ago, and from memory we topped out at about 8-10 knots. worth seaching for the RBYC and contacting them. the sailing expats were really helpful at the time, and could prob be more specific...
good luck, and let us know the outcome!

Generally hit n miss and big kites only but really not worth the grief (this time of year) as RBA hate sporting goods (scared of the unknown) but if you tell them there golf clubs - no worries.

Try googling Miri or Piasau and Muara for local wind but they are different coastal directions so not relevant to most of the Brunei coastline. Does honk but mainly when chasing thunder storms.

Enjoy the food instead and dont forget your duty free (12 cans AND 2 bottles) because you can not purchase in country... catch the ferry across to Lauban (1/2hr) instead (so get a multiple entry visa for a few bucks more when fist entering).

I wrote this few years ago for my web site:
I went to visit a friend and gave a look to the potential of kitesurfing in this small state in the huge Borneo Island.. here we go...

Brunei is a small Nation located on the north coast of Borneo Island, inhabited by some 370.000 peoples, is considered one of the richest state in the region thanks to the export of Oil.
Only 2 hours flight from Singapore and Bali is for sure worth a visit.
The Capital is Bandar Seri Begawan or BSB how is called by the locals, this Nation is strict Muslim and no alcohol is sold or served.
Another things that Brunei is reach of are beaches.... With over 140 km of coast that get the strength of the North-East Monsoon, the prevailing wind between December to March in all of South East Asia. Thanks to the inclination of the coast the wind is mostly side shore with few degrees from the sea depending on where you choose to ride.
Aldo nicely situated appear that the North-East monsoon doesn't get as strong as other places in Asia but if you are passing by during these months better not to forget your board and a big kite at home.
Condition are quite choppy with some waves braking on the shore, stronger the wind bigger the waves gets! there are even some guys surfing mostly with long board. The water is shallow for the first 50 meters and the bottom is sandy.
Temperature of water and air are definitely warm with an average of 28 degrees, no wet suit needed! just bring your lycra as protection from the sun.

I visited some beaches: (from South to North) 25 kilometer from the first to the last all by freeway...
Tungku, favorite spot of surfer, is a bay with wave breaker in both side and in the middle. Looks good for some flat water riding near the groin up-wind. You need a 4 wheel drive to get to the upwind side of the Bay that is the best place for launching
Berakas, nice beach inside a park with all kind of facilities, specially good on North-East wind as perfect side shore and good waves.
Merangang, is the beach with less people around and can be ridden even with North-West wind that are on shore, not so many trees around. I had a nice session on my last day of stay.
Muara, is also a Park with full facilities including play ground for kids, small restaurant & even a half pipe for skating.
Here the North-East if slightly more on-shore but the beach is nice and wide, busy on weekend.

Some links.....
www.wunderground.com/ search for Brunei, they have wind readings at the airport every 30 minutes, the sensor read low so when you see 10 mph per hour is actually about 12-14 knots....
www.buoyweather.com for weather forecast, just follow the links: Asia, Borneo and click the buoy just offshore of Brunei, is not that accurate as seems the coordinates are too of shore but at least you get an idea of what is coming.

Definitely is a nice place to visit but not to be considered as a kitesurfing destination.
