In a light southerly wind could your kite drag you straight down the beach, like from scarborough to Trigg? Make up an el cheapo mini board (for good edging in the sand) and sand surf a down winder in conditions too light to k-surf in...Hmmm , any thoughts ? any one done this before ???
I figure a board will give some ability to tack across the sand giving more apparent speed , a longer ride, more of a ride 'feel' than just dragging straight down the sand, and some foot protection.
I'd guess keep the board short and narrow 'cause flotation wont be an issue.

I think you will probably find there is to much drag unless your boarding on the wet stuff.

"Flotation won't be an issue",your quote Daggy.
No, but friction sure would be. It won't work.
Get a buggy if you want to cause some havoc on that particular stretch of beach. By the way, you'll need a west or easterly wind.

Dont know about light winds, but i had some fun with a small stunt kite in over 30knots on a sanboard.hard to get going, but once i was planing?(skimming)it was on.it was so much fun i ended up about a k from the car.easy to loose control and dig a rail though.Sitting was also fun managed to actually skim in the shallow water and crank up some speed.my girlfreind did the same thing and i had to follow her down the beach in my car until she came to an end flat on her stomach in raspy dry seaweed.Ends in tears..meher

Many moons ago thats how I got hooked on power kiting. My wife would drop me at Black Rock near Barwon Heads in Vic and I would sand ski all the way down to barwon heads approx 5klms away!.
I made up special sand ski shoes, hot melt glued some cut down snow skis to the soles, they were fun, but the best way to sand ski is on your feet, with smooth soled shoes. Boards dig in too easy and then you are belly dragging - not a good look!!
Then I discovered the buggy and 15,000mlms later discovered kiteboarding.
Get a good mountainboard or buggy for beach power kite fun!
The best kites for that are 4 lined parafoil kites like the Flexi Blades, Ozone Samuarai, etc.
