I'm going to be visiting Aus. this November.
I have taken my 3 lessons and spent endless hours with my 3m trainer and roller blades. Pretty much working on body dragging upwind and staying up more than 6 seconds on my board.
I'll have 3 weeks in Sydney, 5 days in Noosa and 5 in Cairns that I can hopefully fit some sessions into. I'm thinking I'll take my 12m F arc with me and hopefully rent a board or just work on my body dragging. My board is a Monster and too big to drag along. I'm planning on picking up at least 1 more lesson over there if I can. The best place for that will be Sydney. I have the 1st 2 weeks there.
So my questions are:
Can I get a heads up on SAFE beaches in these locals?
should I pack my F arc? ( I always take my trainer )
Any lessons available in Sydney? Noosa Head? Cairns
Any places to rent a board / kites in those locals?
DO I SOUND EXCITED???

Hey, I would suggest getting a lesson in the water despite all your practise on land. Look up Traqua on the web and email Bec, she'll be able to offer you advise for up near Noosa area.
If you're in Sydney there's Kitepower, Long Reef and Balmoral Boards who could also help you...all on the web. Give them all a call and get the heads up.
Lots of luck and enjoy your trip!

Thanks Caela,

My 3 lessons were in the water. I have a fare number of hours flying my 9m 12m and 16m unfortunately too many of those have been in very light wind. Our safest learning areas here are NOT thermal driven so we go long periods between sessions sometimes. If you can handle yourself we have thermals at Squamish and it is very reliable in our summer. I'm from British Columbia Canada.
I'm with you on the lesson thing but am able to handle myself safely given the right location. I'll be able to start putting things together now. SOooooo Excited Thanks again

Great time to be visiting Aus, the seabreezes should be pretty realiable in NSW. Check out www.nswkba.com.au lots of info on kite spots that might be useful to you.

culturally devoid but a damn good kitesurfing excuse.

Hey there Canuck - get on down to Sydney town.

12m will be a good option, but Im sure may been a pain in the ass dragging around on your travels, not to mention possible costs for 'excess baggage'. So when you're on your Candian air ticket, you will be sweet as you can take up to 2 bags 32Kg each max. However, when in AUS, if you fly domestically or to NewZealand, the max is 1 bag 20Kg.

Anyways, I'd head to Dolls Point and go to the Kitepower shop. www.kitepower.com.au They can do some Aussie lessons for you, and have all the gear. In that the kiteing is in a bay, it may be a better start than heading up to Longreef etc straight away.

Also look out for Alex Sanz (Look for the big live-in truck with kite advertising all over it). Alex is an awesome teacher and one of the first kiters in Aus. A good guy.

Cheers and see you when you get here!

We DO have a different sort of flora and fawna here in Canada. Actually the kiteblading Turkey is becoming a fairly common site. They are known to gather at ashphalt waistlands on windy days. It is entertaining watching the poor beasts trying to fly with 3 meter wings. A little known fact is that determined WILD Turkies can actually fly!
I'm counting on picking up a couple more lessons in Sydney and coming home a wild Turkey. I think I'll try kitepower 1st. My 3 lessons were with our local longest kiter. He is a great guy. In his 60s and not slowing down. It looks to me like folks who have taken IKO or similar are a bit better suited for today. Our "old boy " taught me a bad habit or 2 by new school rules.
I think I'll take my F arc to Sydney and can leave it with a friend if I find out it's a bother. I bought it with packing light and tight in mind but didn't account for the battons being so long.
Thanks for all the info! K.D.
