So the tide was ripping out at maroochy this afternoon, bloke on the southern side at pincushion calls me over and yells out that there is a dog struggling out in the current, getting swept out to sea. Anyway i tacked upwind and found the thing, about 80m out into the centre of the sweep, almost dead in the water and JUST staying afloat. Getting pounded by the waves and not looking happy.

It was a young looking border collie cross, and i think it was happy to see me. Nobody else was around so i grabbed the dog, hauled it onto me so that its ribs were sitting on the chicken loop/centre line and kited in to shore with it. Stupid thing ran back down the beach and tried to swim back across to pincushion through the rip, so i ran downwind, grabbed it and used the same technique to kite back across to the north side.

The dog took off without a word of thanks and ran back along the river, no owners to be seen anywhere. It was wearing a collar as well, but must have escaped from its owners somehow.

Anyway if anyone knows who owns the thing, they can buy me a six pack of cascade next time they see me on the beach. One very lucky dog!

Bugger the six pack Neill ... you deserve a case, OR TEN!

Legend effort and I hope to hell the owner gets word of your awesome effort, after the dog obviously didn't appreciate your form!

Kudos to you!

Cheers,
MIck

By not swatting flys I have saved countless lives...

Well done on the dog save, and thanks for sharing.....cool. I don't think my skills and/or balls would have managed that, but then again I would have given it a go depending on conditions.

cheers guys, i definately felt good that night!

don't really need the beer, i make my own which is better than most commercial stuff anyways.

looking back, i should have looked at the dog's collar and seen if it had a name or anything but i had my kite in one hand and a dog in the other, it was a tough balancing act i can tell you! i reckon he was having fun though once we got moving, i cruised across the channel pretty fast and he was loving it

big thankyou goes out to the ?german? bloke who was fishing off pincushion, if he hadn't alerted me to the problem the dog would have died within minutes. another 2 or 3 waves and the poor bugger wasn't going to come up again, he was just about done for. saved in the nick of time!

This story is so ironic.

The other day I was down at Maroochy and this dog kept bugging me and biting my leg so I threw its tennis ball into the water and off it went chasing the ball and got washed away by the rip. I was sitting there thinking "YES! It worked! The dog won't be annoying me for a long time" when this damn kiteboarder brings the damn pooch back in to land again so I throw another ball in the water and I see it chase the ball again and the damn bastard fetches it again. After a while I just threw the dog into a quieter section of water where there were no kiteboarders and it disappeared into the sunset.

Damn kitesurfers are annoying.
