This is probably old news, but for those that don't know

a aritifical reef is being discussed to be build the southern end of the cafe strip... Hey, anything to make Scarb's straight waves less straight is welcome, but er... yeah, I wonder where they are bulding it and how it will impact our summer City Beach / Scarb downwinder rituals.

I am keen, the surf sucks here in Perth big time and a point break would be very much wellcomed - the line up could be a bit busy but if it is far enough out it could give enough time for everybody to get a chance.

As long as it is submerged it should not be a problem for kiters and dropping down in a descent wave would be cool. Hopefully they will design it with a bit of a right hander aswell.

Cheers

I'll vote yes. I can't see why there couldn't be more than one between Cott and Trigg.

I know nothing about marine ecology and disruption so if there is a reason why this isn't an awesome idea let me know.

Me thinks artificial reefs are good for all, especially the fish.

PS:

If it's a good idea, there is no way it will get through that council. I lived at Scabs for 5 yrs while they contemplated a full redevelopment of the beachfront, in the end they put in the amplitheatrre and changed the carpark in front ofg Peter's byt he sea, which is about 1/20th of what they could and should have done.

Turned that place into Naomi Campbell.......could be the best thing ever, but you just wouldn't go there.

A Majestic Idea (my big word for today)

Maybe they could scuttle a small Frigate their ????

It would be Tax payer free & No council costs - about right length

Used as an Australian Naval memorial icon.
(call it memorial it adds value to snobs real esate !)

Best for all worlds

Given the redevelopment of Scarborough, does anyone want to be a founding member of "SCABS": Scarborough Citizens Against Bogans in Scarborough?

The founding philophosy will be for Bogans to do bog laps and to get full of piss and fight in their own inland suburbs!!!

Might also reduce the break-ins if bogans aren't allowed.

Back on topic, I wonder if sinking a ship there would make the best waves? Wouldn't a shape designed to make nice waves work a bit better. Give the seafloor a bit of an upslope on the right angle to the prevailing swell and you could get a wave that peels really nicely for quite a way rather than whatever it will do hitting the side of a submerged ship. Not knowing a thing about what I'm talking about however, I could be totally wrong...

Mate,

I am the one usually collecting the bogans as they pass out in my front yard after a big night out
Scarb gets soo much more swell than cottesloe!!!
This would be brilliant, what a great way to spend my rate's money

I would like to see a imperfect reef that produced a number of peaks not just one take off point. Also if it could be made so it doesnt need a huge swell to break.

..........A faulty Collins class Submarine has a smooth rounded shape ......

Can we please just blow something up regardless of its shape
0r maybe the outside reef thats kills the swell at least ??

If your council spends rate payers money to build it, your rates will be "adjusted" accordingly. Then they will charge you to PARK there to recoup their 'Lost' funds

Maybe we could dig up the outside reef and plonk it on the sand there in front of the amphitheatre.

sinking a ship there would probably make it a sanctuary zone and exclude all water sports so that the scuba divers can anchor there ??

we don't need to sink anything.... in a few years time scarbs will be underwater from El Nino, La Nina and the other member of the three amigos global warming team.

........Ive got it now....

Use the bogan or Drifter hoon cars that get nabbed, and put them side by side (nice angled bonnet, windscreens) in da water, for 2 stage ramp - almighty peak creating 'fast & furious" tubes

.........PURRRfect.... just make sure the boot is closed

P.s when the swell changes direction - we can just roll them da other way !!
