To any newbies getting into the sport. Self-landing and self-launching, although made to look easy by those proficient at it, can be dangerous in certain situations. If you’re going to practice either, do it with no people or obstacles down wind.
At a lot of local spots, the local crews are aware of certain areas that may be sheltered (dead, low wind areas). You may see them self land there kites and think "yer, I can do that”. Ask the locals and get the low-down.

And while these are essential parts of the sport to learn. I think if at all possable get a launch and landing by someone on the beach (a fellow kiter) 99% of kiters will help out.
