I've been kiting for a month or so now and manage myself quite well on the board and have no trouble launching with a helper. Lately i've been trying to get the most out of the days and kiting on my own, this is where the trouble starts. I cannot self launch to save my life! I'm using a naish x2 12m in about 17 -18 knots and everytime i try to launch the kite just flops straight on the beach. I have tried adjusting angles and watched others self launch but i just can't get it right?! Any ideas what i may be doing wrong?
1. check leading edge pressure. should be high enough to hold good kite shape 2. as you begin to place tension on the lines point the bar towards the kite to avoid tensioning the top lines more than the bottom ones before you're ready to launch 3. if the wind is lightish <18 knots move your position to be slightly ahead of the kite as KBSB suggests when you're in the correct position the kite should not be wildly flapping around but relatively stable 4. once you're in position with the lines beginning to have some tension on them move quickly backwards without hesitating to release the wingtip from the sand. continue to move back and, if necessary, up into the wind until the kite clears the ground
Ah that was good to hear again, used to look forward to Keith's problem solving in the morning, not sure that monrovian is right either, its hard to make out in between all the kn farks
