Hi everyone,

I have recently changed to a C02 kite with the Recon 2 system and am not sure exactly how to self rescue with this kite. I know it is a very important thing to know but never got taught in my lessons.

What I am confused about after reading up on self rescuses is how do I stop the kite from wanting to relauch. I assume I need to wrap one line around the bar frist before doing the rest but which one (cant be to good it I get it wrong!)

Also with the safety going throught the chicken loop, If I can't get my kite back up and hae to self rescue do I unhook completly or keep the chicken loop attached to my harness.

Thanks in advance for any help someone can give me on this

if u release recon then grab one of the rear lines, then work your way up that line to the kite. It wont launch because only one side of the kite is under tension. Its just like self rescuing on any kite. I dont reccommend working your way up both rear lines though on the odd chance it does launch (It will only go up a few meters then come back down)but it could rip your fingers off.

Also recon is last resort (well almost last, qr on the chickenloop is last resort). Relaunching after recon has been activated is near on impossible, so many tangles and you have to pull the rear lines in against the pull of the kite.

Re second question, if your not comfortable where the recon bypass leach. Its good just incase because the donkey dick isn't very stiff it can slip out and if your not paying attention you could lose the kite.

What I do is let recon go, quickly grab one of the rears and work my way up while still having my chickenloop attached to my harness. This creates alot of tangle when you get back to the beach but less chance of losing the kite.

ohh and when recon is released the kite will fall down to the water trailing edge first and land on its te, not the le. This coupled with the fact that when recon is released there is no front line tension so the trailing edge puckers up a ****load (it wont reverse launch with to much puckering). Its unlikely it will launch when recon is activated but if it does it will just flop back down on the water.

Firstly, download, read and learn off by heart the kite manual... it's available at

http://www.cabrinhakites.com/support/

I have a Cabrinha Element 10 and trust me, you have to know the maunal and al release systems and what to do is any situation...

I downlaoded a Cabrinha instructional video from this site, and it give instructions on everything ud want to know...

www.cabrinhakites.com/products/Recon_Gen_2_(30mb).mov

and it shows everything about it and what to do when... its really good I found, but may take a lil while to download if u have good ole dial up like me

Hope the winds pick up at Wello this arvo, might head down there in the late afternoon and see what its like... otherwise... not kiting this weekend cuz there's no wind

Cheers

Thanks for the help guys. I have read the kite manual but its info on self launch is limited

'If you activate the Recon while on the water follow the steps to self rescue and swim to shore'

I have also tried to find the recon2 instructional video and it appears they hae removed it from the site.

But I think I have the idea now, still a little surprised I didn't get any instruction on this in my lessons (I did 5) hopefully I dont need to use it but atleast I have a better idea on what I should be doing.

shocked at that... I only had 2 lessons, and I seemed to get so much from my two lessons: safety and all, and she was really good! There seems to be a lack of safety instruction there... maybe ur instructor wasnt up2date with the latest recongen2 system or something... if all else fails, ask ur local crew and they will be more than happy 2 help... all the other guys help me and are great... cheers

good winds and gr8 kiting
