Hey guys gals, Im in the early stages of starting out kiteboading. Just been reading around getting alot of info. I was just wondering is there anyone down my way (shoalhaven heads) that kiteboards? Id be keen to eventually meet up so u fellas can show me the ropes. Im looking at getting a trainer kite soon and then a lesson. Hopefull get a kite and board soon!

hey menox I mainly kite warilla beach and windang.Occasionally I kite with mates in the shoalhaven river at shoalhaven heads south of the caravan park. Not at the boat ramp itself but we walk over to the main section further south, heaps of room for launching and landing. The tide has to be high otherwise theres no water there. Its great area when starting to get going on a board, heaps of open space, shallow water(at high tide only). We mainly go there in NE winds below 25 knots.DONT kite there in winds above that from NE unless very experienced because it gets way too gusty and dangerous. We will probably be there on 26 jan or 27 when tide is right and if NE wind happens. If we are there come over and meet us.Im glad you want to get a trainer kite first,it is definately the way to go.If you contact Warren Holder at ONE KNOTS WINDSHOP 42340024 at gerroa (yellow pages under windsurfing) he sells kites and he should stear you in the right direction I think he also gives lessons.Hes down in tasmania at the moment for a windsurfing comp.give him a week and he should be back.Cheers

Surf club at shoalhaven heads is great too - always has the most wind and swell out of anywhere in a NE. I live in Kiama but i am down there every NE that I am not working. There is one other guy from kiama and another guy from nowra who are always there too.

I took a beginner out in the river the other day and he just winged the whole time - it was gusty but OK if you like super smooth water -and like teabagger said good to get going on your board (high tide only)

The guys were out there today, I nearly came down but was running a bit late so stopped off at windang instead.
If your still dropping the kite a lot then you have to watch the swell at the surfclub, it will kill a drowned kite in no time. Also remember to stay right away from the flags, best to walk a few hundred meters upwind of them before launching as the wind downwind of the flags can sometimes be dodgy.

I'll give u a buzz next time i am down - probably the next weekend NE.

I get down there every now and then, my old man is a local windsufer from kiama who has become part of the landscape down there.

Everytime i go down it blows over 25 knots, and im my 11m it isnt overly fun, but i brave it and have a ball LOL.

It really gets an awesome NE'er down the heads, and most the time blows strong, as as a beginner its not as favourable as the less windy northen area's of the illawarra.

My home area is east corrimal and Bulli in a SE'er.

But the NE'er have been dismal up here latley
