Hi Guys
I have been reading a bit about skim boarding with a kite and about how good they are for lightwind.
I have read quite a few reports and thought to myself yea, yea just hype, after all skim boards are not really much bigger than a large twin tip when you take into account the shape.
Anyway I thought I'd knock one up and give it a go.
Saturday of I go with my skim thinking this should be interesting, the wind was hovering around 15k which for me a 110kg is light.
I went straight for my 13m thinking I'll give this a proper test and leave my 17m.
Well here it is within 10 minutes I was happily zipping around and going upwind easily, within 20 minutes I was hopping off little knee high waves and briefly riding some of the bigger swells and watching everyone else walking back up the beach.
These boards are not that easy to ride they are slippery and twitchy, but a hell of a lot of fun.
The board I was on is finless, strapless and flat apart from a little nose rocker.
I can now see that the reason that they perform so well in light wind is that there is zero drag and once you get up on the plain you need virtually no power to keep going, mind you it can get away from you in an instant and go to hyperspace speed.
In short this was one of the best light wind sessions I've had and Addiction will be producing some skimboards very soon.
As much as I hate to say it but I can't wait for the next light wind day.
Cheers
Pete

I made a skim board for me 8 year old son .What we found for the rocker was ,if the skim board came off the wet sand ie suction really easy ,then it had the right rocker for kitesurfing .Try it in a bit of wind .We used sex wax for the deck.best fun yet in the shallow surf.

Yep I just used wax as well, but you could use board grip if you wanted to and for sure great fun in shallow surf.
