- affects aggression thru the pituitary gland
-regulates the autonomic nervous system
-plays a role in homeostasis (body's way of maintaining its environment in optimal levels)
- causes eating disorders when damage is done to the ventromedial portion (overeat)
and lateral portion (reduced food intake)
