Wednesday Mainly fine day. Showers developing towards evening,
falling as snow on the peaks. Moderate northwesterly winds.
Thursday Scattered snow showers.

We are doing 3 other trips in the next month and a half. The first Tour is this weekend (limited numbers left)

Other tour dates:
18th, 19th and 20th Aug
1st, 2nd and 3rd of Sept
15th, 16th and 17th Sept


The area we use is accessable through the lift system but out of resort management area over the back near Mt Loch. It is about the size of 2 football fields and because of its elevation (1980m) it works in all wind directions!

In previous years we have exlpored further into the high plains, it is possible to kite to Falls Creek from Mt Hotham in the right wind/weather conditions. Along the way there are some great kiting spots, even high country cattlemen huts with where you can stay overnight.

A few years ago when i was in scouts we hiked over Mt Feathertop which i'm pretty shure is where you mean, we saw huts ect on the Razorback walk. I'll be in contact about the sept trips. I'd love to head up this weekend but I've got to go back to work for a few weeks before i can afford to go back!

I mainly use the mthotham.com.au for reports, they have 5 snow cams, which are also weather stations. I also have a mate who works for ski patrol, I can often call him to get reports ect. The other site that is good is weatherzone.com.au. This has good weather charts as well so you can see what fronts are coming in.

The Sept trips should be great, in past years we've had some great trips in sept, the weather is getting warmer, but the snow base is usually good. As far as kites go, in 10 - 15 knots or so the 12m should be fine, although its always good to have a small foil around the 4 m to use on higher wind days. I usually carry a 2m foil, 5.5 m foil, and 10m foil for the snow. Foils are good because they pack up small (i usually carry all foils in one small pack) and can easily be landed. We have a range of foils for demo, for the weekend if the wind is to much for your inflatable.

what does hotham charge to use the lifts to get to the spot
?

Hotham weekend passes are about $180. But you also have to factor in resort entry ($25 per day per car - same with falls, accomadation and the rest. I just got back from Hotham, for two of us it was $1400 for the whole weekend including accomadation. Lift passes at Hotham you can also use at Falls and vis versa - thought that was cool but Man not cheap.

Would love to head up this weekend... no $ ...someone tell Johnny to put the petrol prices down or maybe we should run our cars on canola oil or even better wind power!!
