I have just had probably the best kiteboarding weekend in Years!! Rode saturday, perfect Nor-east on 12m Torch and Sol 136. What a combo, wind was about 20knots. The Torch has unbelievable turning speed, wikid jumps/hangtime and the Sol is probably the smoothest ride I have ever had, No spray in the face, great flex, super responce from the wood core (vertically laminated like in snowboard construction), perfect for onshore conditions, waveriding and holding power and speed!
Then Sunday! WOW!!! Rode the exact smae setup, winds gusting up to and in excess of 40 knots! Was on the water from 1:15 till 3:30pm, Some of the craziest airs I have ever done. The torch has unbelievable depower, this is Naish's power freestyle kite, and it was very managable concidereing the condition. (BTW, I don't suggest to anyone to try ride a 12m in 40 knots!) Head high waves, and gusty wind never felt so good! I urge all to visit your local dealer and go for a test ride! Well done Naish, this gear is so on!
Hope all got a good session on the weekend, and hope there was no injuries!
Speak soon,

Spanking the monkey asside, I think you are missing the point I was trying to make. I didn't use a wind metre (you look like a dork standing on the beach with those silly looking things!), I just read the wind reading around my area from the BOM during the time that I was riding, and many of the weather stations had reading higher than 40kts.
Anyway, like I said. I was more so commenting on the unbelievable depower of the 2007 Torch and the super smooth ride of the 2007 Sol. The 2007 Torch has probably twice the depower of the 2006 and the 07 Sol is a totoally different board to the 06!
I agree 12m kites in 30kts are a handful, and I was extremely supprised to be able to kite (and have fun) in the extreme conditions we experienced yesterday what ever the reading may or may not have been.
Kiteodyssey, I strongly suggest you try the New 2007 Torch! It is a different animal!
BTW, I have a fair bit of experience on my side too. I have been Kiteboarding for nearly 7 years and weight 95kgs. I would not suggest that anyone try to ride big kites (or at all) in winds of this strength, I always ride with extremely experienced riders and with beach support in conditions like this. Also please note W.A residnets that this is Sydney wind! Can be differnet to heavy density winds like W.A or Maui.

12m in around 40 knots i belive it, we had a young guy out on the gold coast at nobbys today with winds around 35 knots on a 9m t3 and was handling it fine and this kid is only around 60 to 65 kg, so if you know JB you know he is a little overweight but he also likes to ride super powered.
Remembering JB has won a National Title, so you think he knows what 40knts is.
I just got back from perth a few weeks back. Where i was on a 7m rebel fully powered in about 25knts and today on the gold coast i was on a 9m rebel in 35+knts. Just depends on how your riding at the time.

Ok, I can't believe how much this comes up. Yes I work for Windgenuity, and yes we are the importers of Naish, north and a whole bunch of other products, and yes I am a team rider for Naish. This does not change anything I have said! I compaired the 2007 product with the 2006, I haven't bull****ted or ****ted on any other product, and mearly recommended everyone to have a try of the equipment if they can get the chance! Hmmm I don't see the issue?
Anyway, As I said earlier, I didn't take a wind reading from the beach, I went off the BOM readings from many local area of the time I was riding, either way it was Farken windy!! But again, this is not what the post was about!
Wind density, it is possible for 20kts to be very different from location to location! For instance in Maui, your wind meter (if you use them!!) will read 25 knts and you will be on your smallest kite and shytin yourself! were-as in far northern Queensland or out in the islands on the east coast you will be on your biggest kite. W.A. from what I have experienced has a similar wind to Maui (STRONG!!). Sydney on the other hand which get F-all wind, rarely gets over 20kts! But when it does, it tends to tear dogs from their chains!
As for knowing windy from windy, I have windsurfed at a National level for over 15 years, and kited for pretty much 7 years. I also raced 505's, Lasers, and many yachts over the past 18 years, I've been in many a big wind. Last Sunday was by no means the windiest I've been in, but it was windy!
Now Jacko, all this posting to yourself! I am starting to get a bit worried!! Oh, BTW, i have lost 5kgs!! Woohoo, only 95kgs now.
Anyway, back to the main topic, It's seems those who have tried the T3 agree with me regarding it's depower and boost. I urge you all, if you haven't tried the T3, try and line up a demo, it is a wikid kite!
Also, I didn't know that "C" kites were redundant!! Wow, when I go to the beach I see more "c's" than anything else!! I think the market has accepted that there are many different styles of kite out there, each different and suited to different styles in different ways. This is why testing as many kites as possible is the best thing you can do, build up your knowladge of how different system and style fly, and make smart interlectual posts instead of trying to look smart by slandering something you know nothing about. kites are developing so quickely, it's hard to imagine whats going to come out next year! I heard naish are working on a kite that doesn't have any lines at all! It uses magnets............

If a guy with all JB's experience tells me that it is 40 knts than I aint gonna argue. I am even tempted to get a T3 in the slim chance it may make me a better kiter. Sadly I think that the problems my kite has exist between the chicken loop and the board.
