Please could someone give me the names of the two lakes on the sunny coast that are supposed to be really good for people learning kiteboarding, I think one was Weyba (or something like that)
Thanks

Yep. Lake Weyba - good in SE winds
and Lake Cootharaba (Boreen Point).

You'll probably get replies from others saying don't go to Boreen Pt. because of gusty conditions etc. etc. but if you're learning, they're excellent starting points.

Hi orb, do a search on both of the names on this forum - there is plenty of info there. In my opinion, Weyba is a bit better than Cootharaba. The one down side of both places is inconsistency and sometimes gusty conditions. I know a lot of people that had a few sessions at Weyba when learning.

Hi Orb
Boreen Point is a great place if you are learning you can easily walk upwind if needed also there is plenty of room for error (not too many other kites around). I have heard that the other lake has no beach. Dont bother if wind is N NW SW and if you hate gusty wind.

Lake Cootharaba gets 5kts less than the coast but 95% of the lake you can stand bottom so safe as. Also if you plan to camp, you can literally walk out 20m from your tent and start kiting! Links to area:

The sailing club has a licenced bar and the hotel up the road does fantastic food. We do lessons at the lake often too. Have fun!
