Check out the BOM's wind observations for a spot just south of Sydney. Pretty wacky!!! The old weather cock must be a twirling.

Wind has blown S to SE all day on Botany Bay. Very gusty and strong gusting 25-40+ not a good day for it IMO, each to their own though.
I am feeling a bit spoiled though just back from FNQ with Ant Hadleigh from Australian Kite Surfari we had 4 days (and nights) of 20-30 water was a feeezing 25C!!!

Don't even bother looking at what Wattamolla, it's never right.

I've written to the BOM before when it was stuck on Nth for a few days, i don't think they care to much.

Belambii is the one to look at to see what's coming.

Hey Boonty. Mate that's not a "southerly change" but rather a result of what is commonly known as a east coast low or ECL as the met guys love to call it. Yes, Wattamolla is in what they call "the lee side", so it can get mental readings. BOM placed it there as they needed accurate placement of south winds as they "normally" come up the coast. Bellambie can also read high as the probe is almost 80 feet high, but if you live local here, you have your own way of reading it. I rode this afternoon with 2 guys that I look up to here locally in kite surfing, Troy and Simmo. Both rip. We had huge gusts, for sure at 35 + kts. Mental but fun.
