closest spots in order from the city are:
pelican point
applecross (lucky bay)
cott/leighton
scarborough

they range from bout 10 min to 30 min.

and they all work on the "freo doctor" u were talking bout in ur last post, which is south west.
but they work on otherdirections too, just gotta think bout the layout.
look up on the net, i am sure u can find a map, the river is pretty windy so has a setup for some direction, but is gusty.
round the city the ocean is set up for mainly southerly to sw or northerly to nw. but there are plenty of close towns with good setups.

Waves or Flat water? .. The seabreeze in summer is SW which is perfect for most of the WA coast. There are a couple of points in Perth which generate waves but usually small. If you're coming for a short visit, then head north or south for the best conditions - see windsurfwa.com/index.html which has all the info you need on travelling, and spots up & down the coast... windsurfwa.com/index.html/WA/spots.html gives text details on many metro spots...

Enjoy .. Laurie
