Did anyone kite at Squids on Sunday Aug 5th? I was wondering what it was like as the Nobbys Head wind meter was showing 18-20kt NW.

We were at Picnic Point and it was 6-10kts W, so I'm keen to compare the 2 spots.

Cheers

Sorry can't tell you about squids but i can tell you that this often happens at picnic point. Sydney is windy, newcastle is windy and picnic point is around 10knots. I friend went up on sat... he had the same experience.

Why?

BTW, where is squids?

Squids is at Belmont, south of Newcastle.

Good flatwater spot that works best in NW

Drove past Squids on the way home on Sunday around 11:30 - No one was on the water. Looked pretty light too. Ditto for the upper Tugerah Lakes, but didn't bother stopping in at picnic pt.

Bring on summer.

Sunday:
Boat Harbour sydney 13-18 in the morning.
Kurnell at lunchtime 5 with in gust 20. Wind was turning within seconds by 45 degrees and pushed my kite twice to the ground. Average less then 10.
Boat Harbour Afternoon: 12-16 and from 3.30 pm getting stronger much above 20. (was overpowered at the end with my 14 SB2)

It was a wonderful day at boat harbour.

Cheers

Sorse - Boat Harbour is North Cronulla. Can get access by 4WD and now 2 WD with a 150 M walk. Take a look on Google. Great in a SE/S and quite kitable in a SW even a W as an alternative to Kurnel. Cost $18 to enter the park. You can kite over from Wanda but why would you if Wanda's working. Give it a go it's a top spot.

Granini - The wind must have kicked in as it was crap when we were there. Must be the door you were riding!

@ALan, thats right, I was riding the Door, but in the end I changed to my nobile 555 (still big size, needs to be replaced by a smaller one... anybody interested in a 06 Nobile 555 as new in 141? ;) ) and was still overpowered. The last hour was fantastic only three people on the water.

You were the guy with the caution or with the griffin?

By the way, you can buy a 6 month ticket for $AU 80. That is what i have done and I think it works for all wind directions excepted straight west or NW.

Cheers

Granini

PS: I was there on Monday morning too, there was no wind at dolls and krunell (probably 5 knots) but enough wind for my 14 and the door at boat harbour. I really love my door! ;)

Long Jetty, the Enterance. Thats the south-eastern end of this saltwater inlet. Very Shallow, lots of seaweet and very smelly water, specially in summer but brilliant flatwater spot.

Hi Granini,
We were the five on the Waroo, cation, two Torch III's and a Joker.
All 12's but the wind was'nt good for us when you nipped off.

The door although I first laughed seems to be a great board.

The Griffin guys, Tom and Christian turned up later so they would have got better wind too.

You must be on holiday or just bumming around the world?
Might catch you at the weekend.
Cheers Al.

Unfortunately I am not on Holiday and not on a round the world trip. I would like to do it but I work here in Sydney.

Yes, most people laugh first, when they see this board, but you really should try it. Its brilliant and as you probably have seen, its perfect for low wind days like most of the weekends in Sydney at the moment . And its the only setup that works below 13 knots. It does not feel so big when you ride it as it looks like. And there is a german saying: Who laughs last laughs best ;) because I was on the water!

Crossing my fingers for Saturday. Looks not to bad but probably more like kurnell than Boat Harbour.

Cheers

Granini
PS: And I am waiting for another secret weapon to push my low end below 9 Knots but this will remain secret until I will have received it.

Granini,
That old Friend/Foe...work. Necessary if you want to buy the latest toy's.

I'd like to try the Door, but what could shave 3/4 knots off your planing speed? Must be a double door or stacked doors. I've kited on a 100L windsurfer just for a laugh and it went OK.

Probably see you at KKK.

If you really want to try a light wind board try slings glyde seriously goes in nothing.. design hasn't changed in last couple of years just graphics and slick bottom.

I personally think besides a big surfboard there is no board that has a lower end than the door. And a big surfboard would not plane in these low winds but the door does. There is only one board that planes earlier and that is the monster door (another 5 cm wider than the standard door). But i am happy to being convinced, would really like to see a board that planes earlier.

The underground 148x46 is pretty sweet for low wind. No concave and only a tiny amount of rocker. Sux in the choppy stuff but great in smoothwater. I'd love to try a door.

I managed a super light wind session at picnic point about a week ago in 8-10knots. I was flying a Speed2 15m. At times the water was so smooth I could see a perfect relection of the kite on the water.... and it was sooo quiet.

It was hardly adrenaline packed kiting but it was warm(ish), sunny and very good for the soul. It felt like i was on a kiting pleasure cruise.

Hi Mik,

I would really like to try your 15 Speed 2 in combination with my door. Its like a reunion of board and kite from the same brand ;) and probably one of the best light wind setups.

But you are right, the Door has as well almost no rocker, it is super flat and difficult to ride in choppy water. Its a pure light wind flat water toy. This is the reason why I prefer my Nobile at boat harbor.

May be see you next time at kurnell for a short test run.

cheers
