Does anyone know what they were pumping out of, and then quickly back into, the kiddie pool today?

Was it just general dredging? Or was it something else.

Made the decision to forgo a wetsuit today and went in I white board shorts and white rashie... Big mistake, they are both just grey mess now.

Anyways, the water was thick and black, you could feel the sediment in the water almost like a thin soup.

The smell wasn't the worst ever though so hopefully it was just mud from below the pier and not something worse

It was effecting the water all the way to Port Melb as well. Had a brown tinge and slight smell.

Probably not the best to be kiting in if it was being dredged from under the pier in the harbour it probably contains a lot of heavy metals (lead ) and Zinc and trybutin amongst other things

Spoke to parks vic, they said it's black because it is decaying biological matter (leaves) that will bleach in a few days. Not toxic, just clean sand and decomposed matter.

Also asked why they couldn't do that work exclusively in winter, they said they do it when it needs to be done by measuring sand level, on average every 2 years.

Maybe they should do it a month before summer however...

Tell you what, it smelt pretty grim - I live across the road from the Kiddie Pool and the smell was in the apartment!

We need some northerlies to push it all away from the shore and get it flushing out down the bay!

Contractors have had machines down on the small beach near the yacht club clearing out a blocked drain and sewer pipe, where the ramp is near the cutting you can walk your kite onto the grass. Excavator, backhoe etc. saw them out there with a ground penitrating radar thing trying to find the pipes about 2 weeks ago..

Were they dredging away the build up of dead hookers?

They will say anything........... to justify what they are doing, I guarantee the sediment that flows out of the storm water drains contains far far more than just leaves. Coupled with the sediment around the harbour from lead paint and anti foul particularly near the RMYC slipway.
