Anyone tried this staking two kites one on top of each other.
How do you attatch the top one, what would be the best size gap between the two and what would you expect to happen.
Was thinking about it last weekend but never got round to it.

The only guys that I've heard of doing this are Arc flyers. I've seen photos of them with 11 & 15m g-arcs stacked with the bigger kite always on top. Flying in about 6-8 kts I think and making enough power to keep cruising and nearly stay upwind. 2 meter lines between them with an extra 8 or 12cm on the rear extension lines to the top kite I think, to keep it motoring and pulling the lower one across the window. Apparently it works pretty well.

I used to fly a stack of 4 x Flexifoil super 10's, they are about 10ft by 2 ft open cell foils. A stack, flown with a harness, would make enough pull to drag me across the park or beach from about 12kts upwards.

Hi guys,

It has been done before with inflatables also and pretty much set up like Kiteboy Dave mentioned except I think the distance between the two kites was more like 5 metres which reduces the amount of "V" of the lines between the kites and I think a little less than 8-12 cm in rear line length difference.

It is good to think out loud and the thought is interesting but ....

Wakeboarding is more fun in 6 knots .... at least then you can jump!

It's all fun and games until they luff and fall from the sky

You thought swimming one kite in was a hassle. [}:)]

We also thought about towing a guy on a kite behind a boat ... ask me about this if you see me at the beach and I'll tell you how that ended up.

Good winds and Peace

I did it a couple of years ago with a 9.3 and 12m rhino1.
The extensions were either 5 or 7m long (cant remember exactly) and i just kept all 4 lines the same length.
Requires an extra person to launch but flew quite well.
You will get overpowered and dragged downwind alot easier and will have to start your upstroke sooner to allow for the delayed reaction of the top kite.
I wouldnt do it for too long as even with the big kite on top the lines will rub on the lower kite canopy.
Good fun on a light day but a bitch to relaunch.

If you want to get out and jumping in 6 knots, get a Gaastra Phoenix!

I stacked a 12 meter, and 16 meter, word of advice, don't bother unless you've not been kiting for months!!! kites turn slow as, but yeah you get another two or so less knots .... and i'd stack same model kites, or similar aspect only otherwise you may find your nimble 9meter at the bottom overtaking the top kite, then the top kite gets yanked and pulls foreward, causing the bottom to stall, till you havem both out of phase :( bottom kite does a foreward summersault, and its time to engage the safety!!! :)
