Probably had this discusssion topic a few times..
I'm very much wanting to take up kite surfin.. have surf/snow background and fed up of not getting as wet as I'd like in the summer months.. just moved to Cott and after watching you kiters get out (and up!) there most days, I want a piece of the action!! Have had an ever so brief go on mates kite and board (on a rather not so windy day) and used to have a big quad line land kite for buggy kite typing..

So starter adice-----

Buying second hand?.. what with the sport developing so quickly and kite design evolving, how old a kite should I be looin at?.. is one a few years old already too dated??.. should I look and something new for longer enjoyment??.. Value for money?!

Any advice greatly welcomed..

you can search this topic.

Ya gonna get all kinds of answers from people you don't know....or might I add, you don't know their agenda's.
Research yourself, talk to alot of people on the beach doing it, don't ask here, it's not worth it.

Whats your hidden agenda

No seriously - get some lessons. There are a few basic safety rules you need to know in order to avoid hurting yourself and/or the other people at the beach.

As far as equipment goes - I'd recommend one of the newer SLE/Bow kites. They have far more range than the older C-kites which means less equipment can cover more conditions.

It seems second hand in the 900 to 1100 range is the best value for money i.e. early to mid 06 kite. Basically half price still got a couple of seasons use.

Turbo Diesel
Crossbow
Slingshot
GK Sonic

Speak to a few guys who are your size in your area and ask them what a good starting size kite would be.
Get a couple of lessons if you can't hook up with someone who's willing to show you the ropes.
