I've only just moved to newcastle, and I've got 3 mates coming up for a visit, and they've mentioned they would love to have a go at kitesurfing for the weekend, whats the quickest way to get out on the water. We're all about 28, 29, and we've got a bit of a wakeboarding background if that helps. I wouldn't mind taking it up full time also, so what would be the best way to go?

Best off giving a kite school or someone who does lessons a call and seeing if they can do you some sort of package deal for you and your mates. I'd imagine that you could do a 2 or 3 day quick-course that would have you almost up to the 'up & riding' stage by the end of it.

Get a local school to put together a "explore kite surfing" package at a price you negotiate before hand.

Use local pros and let us know how it goes.
