I thought one lived in the Pacific and the other in the Atlantic.(some distant memory of UNI) To the casual observer they are all blueys. We may well have seen them but not been able to distinguish the differences.
I worked on the water in Queensland for nearly twenty years and I`ve never seen one. Never thought "Oh look, that`s a Pacific m-o-w not Portugese m-o-w".
I have been nailed by a few blueys that hurt lots more than normal even to the point of scarring my arm for years. Retrospectively, I wonder if they were Pacific and not Portugese?
There could well be some cross over or possibly transportation from one ocean to the other via ballast tanks in ships. Just hypothesis.
Or maybe they are this decades mutant ninja turtles, mutant ninja blueys!
As for treatment I think the best for anthing the nails you in the ocean is hot water. It works because the toxins/poisons used by the vast majority of sea creatures only work in normal ocean temperatures, 1-38 celcius. When this temperature range is exceeded then the poisons enzymes breakdown and stop working.
The glaucus atlanticus is our best friend! check this link.
