I'm thinking of buying a Stonker board from a local shop for around $500. i think it's the Evil Bear model at 125cm. it will be my first twin tip - i currently use a directional board.

Does anyone else use one of these boards? if so do you think it would be suitable for someone in my position?

So you know i can already windsurf and snow board so i do have some board skills.

any advice appreciated.

yep i used to ride one of these and absolutley loved it, the evil bear has a snowboard type base which is really durable and a wider than normal stance which helps keep your centre of gravity low, (better balance and style). these boards also give great pop, and while it is quite a small board it gets on the plane super early.
this board will suit.

that is a high price for the evil bear, you can probably get one alot cheaper directly from stonker, they were selling them for 250 on ebay.

Same as the others, I loved the board. Hit sliders, rocks, sand, kickers and it looks like **** now, but still rides fine with only a few chips out of it (if you´ve seen the beatings this thing has taken it´s amazing it´s still going at all). Just talk the shop down, you should be able to get the shops down around $250 anyway. It´s end of season and they´ll be trying to get rid of gear. See ya.

I think stonker have a few evil bears left anyone interested should check out-
www.stonker.com.au/ you cant beat a cheap bullet **** board. I'm currently riding a 133 with boots and could not be happier just beware the 130,133,136 are extremely aggressive wake orientated boards; on your first session you WILL eat ****! But once you have it dialled you will be popping high and landing fast.

Mate you should try and arrange a demo of a 130 or 133, its much wider so it will force you to ride with a far more aggressive edge. Being an intermediate you may find it a little two aggressive and as I have said before generally it’s a wake style orientated shape and you will eat **** on it until you get it dialled. It has a nice flex through the tips and a stiff middle section allowing you to hold the power without it being lost through huge amounts of flex. I personally find flex to be one of the most overrated attributes in kiteboards - at least for my particular style. I am currently riding the 130 with straps and the 133 with boots (when its not so cold) and at 70kg can ride it from 10 to 30 knots with the odd gust above.

For a less aggressive feel the 125 might also be worth a look depending on how small you want to go-it would be a nice combination with your current 137. My girl friend has just begun riding it as a one-board quiver and is almost as stoked as I am.

Give stonk a call I’m sure he will be able to sort you out with some larger fins to take for a spin.

I also hear they have been playing around with some new surfboards –will see if I can find out more.

I took a few Stonkers to Fiji last year, one being one of the first Evil bears.

what is said above is all true and I have a couple of my Students who chose them as their first board and show no sign of outgrowing them.

Support your local shop and support your Aussie products. Just haggle with the shop. Mind you the fins and bindings are worth the $500.

Sometime in the future you will have a warranty claim, and having your local shop backing you will be worth a few extra cents for sure.
