OK,

A simple question but i cant work it out,

If you have a suicide leash attached to the back of your harness which goes onto the chicken loop - therefore using the chickenloop as the quick release if all goes really pear shaped,

you unhook for a handle pass, spin backside or frontside, and pass the handle around your back, wont you now have a suicide leash totally wrapped around your body. So that when you hook into the chicken loop again the suicide leash goes from the chicken loop, wraps around you one turn and then attaches to the back of the harness.

Im all a bit confused about this. I want to get it all set up right before i start trying handle passes and unhooked tricks

Thanks for any advice in advance

hey
leash is attached to the back of the harness and goes either left or right of your body to the chicken loop. If you pass the bar from left to right, have the leash on the left. If you pass from right to left have it on your right. Make sure you sort this out before you attempt the handlepass.
Have fun

So after one handle pass do you then have to go the other way to avoid wrapping yourself up, or just at some stage jump off the board and do a handle pass in shallow water etc standing up.

Ive seen people practice and practice in one direction without doing this and am curious as how they achieve it

after completing a trick, if you want to try a handle pass in the same direction you just have to pull the leash over your head. For me normally that's pulling it from the left side, over my head so it is now on my right side, ready to try the same trick again.

Also you said:
...therefore using the chickenloop as the quick release if all goes really pear shaped,

if it all goes pear shaped you can't reach your chicken loop quick release, because it's at the end of your suicide leash. This is why you must have a quick release where your suicide leash connects to your harness. One that won't accidentally come loose while you're riding.

NOW get out there and have fun.

If your not that confident yet attach the leash to your re-ride or better still a fifth line if you have one, so if/when you miis the pass your kite will de-power

Problem - attaching to the re-ride may result in a bit of spaghetti to deal with

I would have thought that it being attached to the chicken loop would depower the kite enough as it is, especially considering that ill have yanked on the depower strap to stop the kite flaring when not hooked in, therefore resulting in really loose back lines with the bar fully extended along the chicken loop...if the suicide leash is needed ++

ill just have to give it all a go and see what i like the most in a nice safe place to start with.

should be fun and painful at the same time - 1 box of nurofen please

Have they stopped those pins shearing out of those things yet? I'm a fat bastard and take a 'heavy' toll on my gear.

loose fin, I'm glad you asked the question...I've been trying to get get my head around this as well.
If I have the suicide leash attached to the chicken loop, should the suicide leash be short enough so that I can reach the bar if I let go? or should the suicide leash be long enough that I have to pull down on it to reach the bar?

Whats the best length for the suicide leash?

thanks

Personally, I reckon you want the leash as short as possible, but it must be long enough so that when you're riding normally you can stretch it over your head so it's set up on the other side.

Ideally this is something with stretchy cord inside a nonstretch case, like bungie cord inside webbing strap. This way the stretchy cord keeps the leash short as possible when not in use, but it's allowed to stretch just enough to get over your head, and the webbing makes it strong when it's full loaded up, like when you've crashed.

depends how tall u are coz the shorter the better. but u just need to be able too get it over your head from 1 side to the other when you are hooked in so as you can pass 1 way or another. i use a slingshot 1 with about 4 or 5 knots in it it only just goes over my head and the knots help when pulling it in other wise it can get slippery.
