Just wondering where you guys attach your leash when riding suicide? I put mine directly onto the chicken loop on my kite (09 Torch) but sometimes it gets in the way when trying to hook back in. Any suggestions about where else to put it?

On some kites you can hook it in to the 5th line and the suicide leash at the same time. This serves 3 purposes, you can pull quick release on the chicken loop and it will flag to 5th line and the 5th line tension should keep the clip up around the top of the loop and if you clip does manage to come undone (gclips are notroious) then you got more chance it will still be hooked into one of them and your kite won't fly away.

Not sure if it would work on the torch but thats what I do on my kites and it seems to work quite well.

I clip mine to the depower line just so the chicken loop is fully clear and it makes it heaps easier to hook in.

I have recently moved riding suicide myself. I can not be bothered with the hassle of the retrieve and recovery with the 5th line as I am dropping my bar so many times per session.

The Flexifoil Ion3 bars have a clip just above the chicken loop for suicide riding. see below.

I will takes monkeys advice and also hook into my 5th line for added security.

I used to clip mine directly to the chicken line until found that the clip (one of those slingshot ones that overlap) had been pushed open and onto some webbing by the bar while unhooked which obviouslly did nothing to hold the kite whn I let go...

moral, make sure it wont get forced open when you unhook.

Whilst on the topic of leashes; if your just new to the unhooked business, be aware that leashes fail, more than you would like. Those claw type clips are rubbish, I have found the G-clips also just spontaneously release also. Also quite a few quick releases like to work themself loose.

You won't find out how good your leash is until your using it at least 20 times a session, so if your just starting to use it you may discover that the leashes supplied by kite companies don't quite cut the mustard.

The leash I am in the process of building has a solid metal ring on one end which slides around a rope on the back of my harness (fool proof pretty much), attached to a windsurfer uphaul using a slingshot style quick release with a bit of tape to stop it from working its way loose but still maintaining functionality if I need it. On the kite end I am going with a screw up carabiner sort clip (should be foolproof).

If someone knows a better quick release please share it, the problem I have is that the ones that work, work too good and undo without you releasing it or accidentally knocking it open during a trick (pretty dangerous) and then you got some that are just way too hard to use in an emergency getting dragged backwards through the water on suicide. Once again most people won't discover how shoddy QR's are until they actually start using suicide a fair bit.

I hear you on that one Monkey. I went though three leashes last year alone. The main issue was the gate breaking on the clip. $50 every time more or less. I found myself riding along and realizing that my leash is just there trailing behind me as I unhook!

This years supplied leash system looks solid but again they use this ****ty gate that you know is going to give up at some stage. These parts should be replaceable without having to buy a new system.

hmm...
