Have you noticed a significant increase of riders at your local spot wearing wake board bindings?

The reason I ask this is to gauge the their general popularity across Australia.

This season in WA I have noticed a significant amount of riders moving to boots and the general feedback is that people love it and most will not return to straps.

Thoughts?

Not boots, but unstrapped surfboard riders now make up close to 50%. I only know 2 locals that wear boots.

I wouldn't consider riding straps again, if you get a chance have a go in boots and see what your missing out on

I've been riding boots this whole season. I'm an intermediate rider at best, just a couple of basic unhooked tricks but I really do prefer it. It gives me confidence to try stuff I couldn't before and my riding has imporved this year. Not saying that's down to boots vs. straps, just is.

They aren't great in light wind or bad chop but I ride flat water or get on a surfboard.

< Sits by the computer waiting for the 'Straps v's Boots' debate to ignite into a 'Strapped v's Unstrapped' or even, (let's hope) a 'kiters carn't do full roundhouse cutbacks' furor.

I am not interested in the legit argument I am interested in the general growth of riders switching to boots.

I think this year has seen a lot of riders switch over and with pro / pkra riders using boots in comps now I can only see the trend continuing to grow.

Hi Sci
Been using bindings now for 12 years. 6 years ago i never saw anyone else using them. So it is definitely catching on. The bindings from 6 years ago were nowhere near as good, and were very heavy.
My question is, is anyone using the Ronix Cells on a kite board, Im up for a new set and like a stiff boot on my snowboard so was thinking of getting a stiffer one on my kite board. Has anyone used them or are they a bit too stiff.

I ride ronix ones but I had kai's and both are still very flexy.
Boots are definitly the future. Look at wakeboarding, 10years ago people used straps on wakeboards and these days you couldn't even buy a set of straps for a wakeboard. And there is a good reason straps are gone, not just boots were the new style.

Since changing to boots my ridings improved ten fold. And no more dragging back thru the water to get your board after failed landings!

Steve if you check kitescoop forums quite a few people ride with the cells and love them. You should be able to find some reviews about the cells on there.
I just didnt go ronix as all i tend to hear is problems with them. Eylets laces and base plates barely lasting a few months it seems.

But ****loads of people ride them so they must be bloody comfy

Is there a higher risk of knee injuries with boots?

excuse my ignorance, but is it easy enough to get your feet out of the boots if required?? (sorry never wakeboarded before)

Ahhh Yes, it's funny how things change.

@Juicerider, in my last to "washed" episodes posted on here I'm wearing the Ronix Cells. In my opinion they are the best boot money can buy.

Alot of the boots available are not up to the abuse they get with kiteing, hours on end, crash after crash. If wake boarding it's maybe 20mins and most of that time your in the water waiting for the boat.
I destroyed a set but warrenty covered them so if they break it's all good.

And getting your feet out in an emergency is pretty difficult, your not going to fly across the beach and flick the board off landing on your feet.
Keep yourself out of those situations

not sure where you get this from. i was wakeboarding in the 90s and never saw a board with straps. the really old skurfer type directional boards had straps, but that was more like 20 years ago at least.

the boots were pretty stiff and not the easiest things to get in & out of but they were boots.

both got advantages and disadvantages.
in general riding straps on kiteboard suits better in the ocean.
you can also ride much faster in straps than in boots.

sorry my bad a littlemore than 10years, i was told by a guy who used to be a pro wakeboarder 10 years but he probably lost track of time after crashing in boots

No reason to hate on boots, I wakeboard so I feel better in boots than straps. I use the same boot for both and I have gone through heaps of them. Liquid Force has a range of boots that are suited for kiting vs just wakeboarding so check them out. I have noticed they are lasting longer than some of the other brands and are just as light as Ronix. If you want to get in and out fast then go for the Velcro ones.
