Hi all, I have finally found a product that really protects and does stay on while kiting. I'am sure I'am not the only one that has had bits burnt off, cut off or want to prevent further damage from the sun. The product I use is called " Invisible Zinc " 4HR Water Resistant its rated at 30 SPF+ and blocks out UVA - UVB rays.
I am not associated with the product in any way just thought that I would pass on info about something that does work as I have tried lots of products that either dont work or a crap to wear, this stuff has no chemicals and is an Australian company which is a bonus. I have been using it this season and can honestly say that my face has not been burnt once even after a couple of hours of solid kiting.
Anyway give it a go it is about $25 for a large size but I think thats cheap given what it does and that it will last all season.
Cheers and good winds

You can buy it at chemists.

Does it last on your lips like normal zinc?

Have you read the current scare about the "nano zinc" used in many of these invisible zinc sunscreens?

I bought mine from Myers so not sure which chemists etc are stockists, as far as nano zincs go this is not one of them as it does not rub in to be invisible and only contains natural 100% mineral reflectors, it does leave a white film on your face but only if you pack it on which really doesn't really matter as long as it protects, I dont really care what I look like and as far as lips go I smear it on there as well then add a lip protector. Like all blockouts you should put it on before you leave home or 20 mins before

I had my annual check-up with my dermatoligist today and I thought I would pass on her suggestions. She suggests using products from the "ego" range. The reasons she gave me was that even though they had an SPF rating of 30+, they were actually around 75. Apparently, they were SPF 100, but the company took out a questionable chemical which bought the SPF down. I previously used the Megan Gale invisable zinc but she advised against it because she thought the rating was too low. She didnt seem too concerned about preservatives/chemicals saying that "most" companies had taken out the nasty ones and that there is a far greater risk of dying from skin cancer. I still think there is alot we dont know. She didnt sell any sun creams at her practise.

Anyway, will leave it there.

Before I start, Laurie has already made a permanent forum topic on sun protection. This would have been better posted there. However, sun protection is always a pertinent issue so here are my two cents. I use a product called "Aloe Up Water Sports Jelly". Big bonus is that it's as sticky as hell, never comes off when being pounded in the surf or face planted. The downside I have found is that it's as hard as hell to remove after a session and if it gets in your eyes you like you've had a different kind of session on the beach...

DOnt know if you can buy it in Australia - but a mate of mine sent me some Burts Bees lip balm - having terrible lips in the past and a full chemical treatment - zincs were always ok - but this stuff rocks and lasts for ages - I use invisible zinc too - woolworths sell it - and it is very good - may have some chemicals that could screw you up I guess - but the sun screwed my skin up and after being through that - and never again I will continue to use these products - although I also now use a FCS indo rashie which has a hood built into it too...

I use the skin coloured zinc sticks ($8 from coles). You can plaster it on thick and the colour is skin coloured so it doesn't make you look like a cricketer. The zinc generally last a full session.

Got the Oneill indo rashie, helps heaps on the long sessions- I have found as long as I reapply every hour pretty much any brand cream or invisible zinc works. I got burnt for the last 2 summers constantly and now have finally woken up to the fact that I need to do something about it...

PS- I am sick of all these scare campaigns about chemicals that cause harm- how did our grandparents survive without knowing to avoid all these horrible things ? The media sucks !!!!

I've got some of the 4hr waterproof invisible zinc. It does not seem to work very well. My face feels more burned after a day than the Banana Boat Ultra I normally use.

It's also hard to rub in properly. I'll continue to try it but the first few goes are not very promising ... and it's fkcuing expensive.

They didn't. They either didn't use products because there were none available, or their health was damaged from using products with dodgey ingredients.

Lots of cosmetics used to contain lead. Lots of commonly used medicines or tonics contained opium or cocaine or arsenic.

My main problem is how to wash these zinc sunscreens in the shower?
Its a pain to wash the sunscreen away every night from my face and my neck and its just not going.
I will end up going kite surfing with a ninja suite or become a muslim:

Im with you Carbon, also a fan of the invisable zinc brew. It works a dream for me. Rubs in like suncreen and works for ages. I work at a pharmacy and reckon this and bananna boat are the two winners
