Gidday

A few of us are driving up to the either Picnic Point or Squids Ink on Sunday to get some wind. PM me if you want to car pool, we all put in for the gas. Both spots are flat shallow water, suitable for SW to NW (Picnic) and W-NW (Squids).

The plan is to leave the northern beaches around 9am, return around 6pm. Forecast looks good at the moment ~20kts, but we have driven up in the past to find no wind, so it is pot luck.

Cheers

Gav

Eye of the Storm, have a look at the other thread eg; "Squids Ink on Sunday" - it'll tell you more.
Squids is basically Belmont, South of Newcastle.

I'll be at Tuncurry for the weekend

Squids sux .The lake is low and there is a weed outbreak in the water and it's virtually impassable .Some council guys were saying that the area might be closed in order to control the outbreak.
Also I heard that there is going to be some kind of religious get together on the point at the caravan park this weekend

Nah ..Also energy Aust are imposing a $20000 fine for anyone who gets tangled in those ever so close power lines now

Definitely squids sux .

Save yourself a drive .there are plenty of spots on the central coast that are much more suitable .Also Birubi is epic and if its a bit too much north in the wind Port stephens is right next door.lots of options (its only another 15 mins driving compared to Squids from Sydney when you stay on the freeway and take the Medowie turnoff or you could go past grahamstown dam on the way .You need to be aksa member and register at the boat club on the day)) .Heaps of room and much better MMMMM

I don't want to see squids to crowded as it can easiy end up with 30 to 40 kites there when the wind is on..
I agree it sux for obvious reasons, like me doing lessons there since the water is knee to waist deep and soft mud bottom. yeap weed to..
Flat water who wants that?
Wind can be extremely gusty if it is a bad westerly. but if it's good well..
May be you should follow mr float to birubi where it's cross to cross off with waves and no hope of rescue, great spot.
If you do come to squids please respect locals ( don't park your gear in the middle of the launch zone, place it under trees near edge) That way we can all launch and land easily and have a great ride together at such a terrible spot.. :-)

sounds like the squids crew don't want a bunch o' sydney siders coming up for the weekend and showing them up in fron of the bible bashers!!! weed and $2000000000000000 kagillion doller fines and religous jetsking nutcases!

why does everyone always say there is a 'religous' group coming to stay in the list of lame put off tactics!

I can't believe I once fell for the religious group camping thing haha! However on the way back from xmas hols this year we stopped by a campsite and there was a group like that walking around and singing in big groups.....so it's hard to know if you guys are cyring wolf or telling the truth!!

It's fair to say no-one likes their local spots getting flooded with those hunting the best winds, we're all the same, we all want a great kite session

Oh and did I mention the bull routs ,razor shells and odd board eating submenrged oyster encrusted rock.
I confused the religious get together this weekend with the brownie camp that is on at the point this weekend

Hey Dave and Mr Float, NSWKBA would like to put together a PDF map like the one at http://www.nswkba.com.au/images/stories/Maps/northern_beaches_complete.pdf for the Newcastle/Central Coast area, detailing all the kitespots/wind directions/dangers/etc.

Would you guys be willing to help us out with making them, then stock them at your respective stores?

Otherwise I'll have to keep directing all the people I get asking for a kite loaction that is good in a westerly up to Squids.

If you can help send me a PM, I'll send you a map to note the location details onto.
Cheers

respect the locals!!!

hahahhahahaa... :)

this isnt surfing man, all this bullsh1t locals only rubbish just creates bad vibes...! i respect everyone equally, and everyone else should do the same, thats what makes kiting cool and surfing only cool when you have a break to yourself..

my local break is a cross between a beauty pagent and an NRL match.. skinheads, arrogant pre-pubescent local kids and angry old farts...

i dont want kiting to end up like that...

When I say respect the locals it means don't drop all your bags in the small rigging area causing kaos. Don't launch were it isn' safe to do so.
No one wants to loose there local spot becasue someone from out of town dropped in and rigged up in a bad spot, then got banged around and put his kite in the power lines or other. just because he thought only of himself..
Hell get out on the water and have a great time, just be safe in doing it is all..

i agree, we get that all the time in sydney, i just wanted to make the point that i dont see the spot where i kite a lot as MINE.

every other kiter has just as much right to kite there as i do - but i take you point about morons that cant kite / have no idea...

It is not just about the locals who kiteboard. We have to respect the local people who are just going for a walk along the beach/path. If we get on the wrong side of residents then they can complain to the local council who can ban kiting. Especially if a kite hurts someone or causes 1000's of dollars damage to power lines etc.

If we all use our brain then i think we can use the spots for many years to come. If you are incapable of using your own brain (many of these people exist) then ask other kiters.

the problem is that the kind of people that cant use their brains usually don't ask - that why its up to the intelligent few to play shepherds to a flock of dimwitted sheep.

happens throughout society, happens in kiting...
