Hi,

Does anyone use the Sundog Tremor glasses?

I'm wondering if the polarised version are a hassle for kiters keeled over at 45% due to the 'polarity effect' off axis? I normally prefer ploarised sunnies on land but are the normal model lenses ok?

Any other brands to check out?

My peepers are still killing me today after a 3 1/2 session on Saturday screaming around fully lit having a great time but getting mega lashes in the eyes by spray. It really was peeling my lids back and fealt like have a trailer of lovely beach sand was left behind!!! No wonder, on the way home, the guy in the servo talked really slow to me - I looked like I had consumed a couple of 'Camberwell carrotts' and had a strong desire for comfort food.

Cheers

Getfunky,

Yep, I use Sundog Tremors. They are the polarised ones.

I got these after going through two pairs of Dirty Dogs in the space of two months. The Dirty Dogs kept falling apart and the lenses fell out. Got the Sundogs, had them over a year now, and very happy with them. My usual spot is Botany Bay and in the Summer Afternoons in a NE'sterly you spend half the time with the sun right in your face. Never had a problem the 'polarisation effect' you mentioned, but that may be more related to my crappy technique!

LAVA's??

Anyone know if Lava's are still being sold in OZ? These rocked... saw them in Mui Ne (Vietnam) this December so they are obviously still around... these were very comfy, but my last pair was erm... shall we say removed by the underprivilidged...

polar sunnies are great on the water,I am surprised at how many people dont wear sunnies at all!!
Eyes are most valuable an everyone who spends as much time in the water as us with out them is up for probs latter, garranteed.

I know they are pricey but I have had my Oakley's for 3 seasons and they dont have a scratch on them. Tough as nails.Wouldn't consider kiting without them.

I can recommend the Blueye squids. Had em for a year, treated them mean, they're still fine. I needed to superglue the rubber arms on though. I had polarised Sea Specs before, they broke. Polarised was cool for seeing what's underwater, but the reflection and glare is how we tell where the water's surface is.

PS the local surf shop has these for $180 or something. Surely there are laws about that sort of thing. They're a bit cheaper online!

I have been looking into it since this thread.

The Blueyes are about $72 online. The Oakleys are $300. I know, all the arguements like you can't put a price on your eyes and all that, but is there much difference between these two ?

Damn it. I just seen the polarised water jackets are $389. Do these include night vision for that price?

My sundogs lasted about 18 months. They did not survive my wife reversing over them last week! Good excuse to get the polarised ones. Airborne have tham at $150-00 per pair and I think SOS carry them as well.

I had sundogs......great glsses while they lasted, strap busted, thingos on the end of the thingo that goes over your ear came off, nose thingo fell off.

all repairable until a lens fell out when on the water

Now have sea specs which are IMO superior.

Sundogs(polarised((they come with or without))price $99-$150) are the best I've used since LAVA'S.
Tried the Blue eyes online deal and got about $7 p/min for my effort as I lost a lense the first time they touched the water and had the same experience with seaspecs.
Have now had the doggies for about 4 months and am totally stoked, personaly I think polarising gives added benefit to seeing chop here in WA,(won't take long to get used to it) and I also feel that anybody out there who thinks it's uncool to wear any type of sun protection for their eyes must truly be stupid, especially here in WA with both the setting sun and glare off the water in the arvos, it's just an ask for retina fry.

But this is just my opinion

Polarised takes some getting used to but is better. Its like looking at the world through another set of eyes.....like a glimpse into the 5th dimension.

So who on the east coast stocks Sundog Tremors?
My Dirty Dogs were sacrificed to the wind/wave gods of Fingal Bay?

FYI sea specs are buy 2 get one free ($US 118 in total - including world wide shipping). That's approx $50 Oz each. Should be able to sell the pairs you don't want on buy&sell when they retail in Oz for $150

I used some cheapy no brands for the first time last week. I very much liked the fact it reduced the glare, thats a new experience for 7pm sailing.

But a few days later, a few forwards windsurfing and after a bad landing, they had gone, even with the band done up tight.

So my question is, do any of these float ? Do the Oakleys ? If so they don't mention it on their site. I am not too keen putting a leash on them to the back of my wettie or something but maybe thats the only option ????

I may have not so sensitive eyes so I don't need polarised, however I am wearing contacts, and I want my eyes wery well protected from the "splash".
I know most of you may laugh, but, I am using $15.00 UVEX, eye protection glasses from... Bunnings.
They are UV block, wrap around the face with very little space for splash to get my eyes, pretty comfy colour and fit, I can fit a band trough the ear pieces, and, most important, if I loose them... buy a new pair for only $15.00.
Try them, you will be amazed.
To answer another question, you can add some foam tube, like the one used in fridges to insulate the copper pipes, on the band, that will make the think floating, although, it will be very tricky to see them if you will be dragged few meters away downwind

I use a product similar to Silviu's and buy them in bulk...they protect the eyes and are disposable.

servo's sell polarised cheap sunnies, normally $20 or so. The protection of polarisation but at more of a disposable price..

I'm just recovering from conjunctivitis which my doctor believes was bought on by regularly exposing my eyes to salty water, dust and sand blowing in strong winds.....apparently not good for them!

So I went out and purchased a pair of blue eyes and they rock!! In the past I've had problems with sunny's coming off or getting fogged up but these are just great.

Try out all the types to see what fits your face the best and works with your helmet (if you wear one).

There's no value too high when it comes to eyesight!

I noticed the blueeyes mention a water repelent coating but no similar claims by Sundogs, even though they are 50-80% more exxy??

Does the Blueyes coating work or does the Rainx - I presume from hardwear stores - leave it for dead?

To me the Blueeyes and Sundogs really do look like the same unit just rebadged??? Just a mega price diff.

Cheers all.

My getfunky what big eyes you have... well young lass that's all the better to see your big !!SMACK!!

Spose I asked for that...

The blueeyes don't fog up and at the moment the splashes on them don't restrict my eyesight. One of the bonuses is that they have a couple of tiny holes in them that let air circulate but not big enough to let lots of water in.

Give them a go!
