I bought Blueeye Squids about 6 months ago, and have been very happy with them. They are not too expensive ($80), comofortable and effective, and I have not lost or broken them yet. Mind you I'm not that adventerous trying tricks yet and dont often do massive stacks, but in general I am not a gentle person with my gear.
I dont think they are much use under a helmut, they do scratch easily (easy solution- dont wipe the lenses until all sand is washed off), they are not polarised, but my eyes are much happier with them on. I am not sure myself if I would like polarised as it makes it a bit harder to judge the chop and waves.
There was good thread about sunnies here in the last 6 months thats worth searching for- I dont know how to make a link to it, sorry!
Yup - second that. I bought the squids for $80 spendies too and rode without a helmet a few times with the supplied elastic cord extended to attach to my harness (little bit awkward). They did come half way off after one big stack but the rear strap makes this hard to do.
I now have a Protec Wake Ace helmet and they fit nicely and aren't goin anywhere.
My eyes are so much better (spesh in 25+kts) after a sesh now.

The 1st few sessions of use the H2O ran cleanly off, but now I need to get a spray on water repellent from the hardwear, Rainex I think? Any clues folks?
