Orb74 has a kiting support group - great idea. I'm looking for something similar that is kid friendly (I have kids aged 6, 11 and 14). I often miss windy weekends cos I can't properly supervise the kids while I'm kiting. Mtychook has expressed similar wishes - anyone else? I'm in Noosa but happy to travel anywhere on the Coast.

2 things to do here:
1) Get Married.
2) Share the kiting experience with your partner..

Remember, 'Just Kite'.

Didi, Awesome thread (and idea)

It really is hard (to get out and kite) when you have to watch the kids and you don't know anyone on the coast (all my babysitters are in Brisbane) and when your Hubby works on the weekend

lol im the same got two kids aged seven and two.
my mate also has two kids so what we do is take turns kiting and we go down with an extra friend so that when we are launching there is always someone with the kids. its a real pain in the ass and we also have to go as far upwind as we can to make sure the kids are nowhere near other kiters. this sytem ensures we kite every weekend cause the missuses get real peeved if they are at home with the kids while were kiting.

I am lucky as I currently have live in help that can come down and look after the kids (1&2)at the beach whilst my wife and I kite.

But yeah they are still time suckers, getting them ready let alone in the car - and I still like to spend time with them at beach too as I don't get to see much of them during the week.

This is all about to change as I will be shifting back to Bris Vegas later in the year and reality will hit hard although I just bought a block of land smack in the middle of Wello Point and will be ensuring there is enough space in the new house for visiting babysitters grandparents (or kiters). My mother lives at Mudjimba and we will be spending a lot of time there as well. She loves kids maybe she can run a minding service while we all go kiting!!

But this thread is the go though - get a group together, make a day of it and take turns in kiting/keeping an eye on the kids, it's gotta be a winner for everyone surely! I'll be in when I come down.

LOL - no way - you aren't using up all my childminding credits before I get down there!

I reserve the sole right to make my Mother thoroughly sick of kids [}:)]

Yeah - and I do feel for ya Chook!

nothing worse than a cranking day and being stuck with the kids. It's such as shame that those pokie junkies have made locking them in the car so frowned upon!

Hopefully something will come out of this thread to get you out there more.

We need a childcare centre that is only open when the winds are 15 knots...
We pay a small retainer for the year as they would be on call..Wind permitting..
Then pay a fee for the time the kids play and we go kiting...
Come on someone who doesnt kite please open This centre..
We ll All pay CASH...
cause its so hard to get a kite in, it seems the wind is good when its your week with the kid...

Mudjimba works fine for me as a child minding centre also - what time does your Mum open Saturday mornings Paradox?!!

On a serious note, and call me old fashioned, but I like spending time with my children. If I can regularly include them (safely) in kite outings, that would be real fine (not to mention being able to kite with friends).

By my count there are three starters for the kiting/keeping an eye on the kids group - Chook, Paradox and myself.

Had a breakthrough 2day though - my 6 yr old son has been watching Ruben Lenton doing kiteloops on YouTube, and studying my Kiteboarder magazines. He asked how old he has to be before he can kite with me. Old enough to swim old enough to kite says I, and placed an urgent order through for a 1.5m trainer foil! Just have to figure out how to put footstraps on his body-board now! My daughters are still reluctant to try kiting (vivid memories of watching me get tea-bagged on my first C-kite in 25 knots).

Yeah I will be in, but I won't be down that way for 6 months or more, so not much use until then - unless you want to send your kids up here to Port Moresby! Plenty to keep them occupied

Better yet, you should all plan a kiting holiday here after Easter when the wind kicks back in. Kids can play on the beach, looked after by nannies and everyone can kite

Thanx Chook, that's a spectacularly kind offer! Love to come along but I'm working all this weekend - maybe next weekend. I also kite Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons when there is wind, so plenty of opportunities to meet in a group.

Asked my kids if they fancy a trip to PNG. They were of the opinion that white children will be chopped up with machetes and eaten by the locals. I assured them that this is definitely not the case (is it?).

Absolutely not!! They tend to roast them whole rather than chopping them up these days

Don't believe the press and stories you hear on PNG. It isn't Australia, but as long as you know what you are doing, it is actually a very friendly, livable and safe place, especially once you get out of the cities. But that is like everywhere.
