So there I was, focusing on my technique and discovering that I could go further and further in the air strapless and still land, and I felt something give that shouldn't have.





Now I know this board is rooted already. It's got patches of Solarez all over it trying to stop the water getting in through a dozen or so dings, but some of them were a bit late on. I really want a new one but it's not in the budget, so I'm going to try and patch it again and hold out until finances improve a bit. The questions I have are:
- Is there anything better than Solarez to patch Tufflite with?
- Is there any way to get a bit of water out of the board before I try?
- Should I try gouge a bit of the skin off that crack further up and fill it too?

All comments on how I'm a cheap bastard and should find the money for a new board are also welcome...

Hey Pat,

Roughen up the area with really course sand paper so you key in the new patch, if you don't it will come off again.

Use 2 part epoxy, the super strong stuff, apply and wait till it starts to set. Try to get as much epoxy in the board. Once its starting to harden, use a bit of spit or soapy water and smooth and shape to the best as you can - so you don't have to sand it too much.

To get water out the board, leave it in the sun for a bit, but just monitor it otherwise it may delaminate a bit.

The other option is to go to a marine supply shop, I think it is called Hawkes just off scarb beach road, get some liquid epoxy and chop strand glass - it will be alot stronger but you will have to sand it down a bit.

oh....and it's styrofoam...don't fix it with anything but epoxy...cheapest,nastiest fix is...fill the hole with 5 minute araldite.

Take it to see Dave at Katana Surf, he's the only one I trust with my repairs. Seriously, Dave is a genius and a craftsman. After taking my boards to a couple of other repairers and being really p1ssed orf at the results, I found Dave and have set others onto his skills as well, everyone been happy.

I had him fix a North twin tip once that was totally rooted after slider abuse with massive delamination after finding a protruding screw and truly bin-able damage. Dave managed to fix it almost as good as new, unbelievable!

gaffer tape is pretty cheap and nasty
otherwise 5min araldite,
clean area of wax,
score along the crack with something sharp to widen it
and fill with araldite.
