As an ex-windsurfer and current kitesurfer I was really pissed off to see the good name of Australian water users tarnished by the absolute idiot referred to in an article by Gabi Seindtl in the current issue of Kitesurf (a UK magazine). If there is a shred of truth to the fact that he seriously hasselled another water user (let alone a female) he should be run out of Lancelin.

Localism in the water should not be tolerated by anyone!!!! If the committee and members of Windsurf WA don't haul this idiot's arse over the coals they should be ashamed.

All kitesurfers should drop by Lancelin and give this guy a mouthful!!!

Let's make sure no kitesurfers repeat this sort of behaviour - respect other water users.

i wouldn't mouth off at her.. sheesh - she could snap ya legs like twigs...

wasn't the only place she got a serving.. and wasn't from her ridding, in fact not even in the water.. but windsurfer orientated none the less ..

her and traveling companions really enjoy their stay down this neck of the woods last season. some of the local boys where happy to do a downwind with them to show her some of the other spots about town , had a bbq at one place... so any thing mentioned about us local boys being kite kooks, but a top bunch of horny blokes? lol

There'd be a lot more than a shred of truth to it unfortunately mate.

Werner's reputation definately preceeds himself. He feels he owns the beach because he's been there for years and windsurfing was around first apparently. God help anyone that is kiting for the first time in Lancelin and unsuspectingly invades 'HIS' area, regardless of circumstance.

I'm just thankful that he doesn't represent the majority of Windsurfers. The place is awesome though and he's the only spoiling factor.

Just one point though phil, by "droping by and giving him a mouthful" are we not simply "repeating this sort of behaviour"? Just something to think about.

I think the major issue with it is unless someone deals with it, he will continue with his behaviour.

Is this the same guy that tries to ram people?

Guys, I've been a windsurfer and surfer in Lanno for over 20yrs now. Would talk to Werner from time to time and never realised there was an issue. I took up kitesurfing a few years ago and he physically ran me down in the water. The guy has no regards for fellow water users, couldn't give a stuff about anyones safety except he doesn't want anyone on "his" beach. There were plenty of people using "his" beach long before he showed up on aussie shores. The stories go on and on. Do a search for "Werner" or "Lancelin" and set some time aside to read thru. Some of the stories would be pretty funny if they weren't so serious and dangerous.

We were in Lano in January, and saw the legend Werner himself.
Knowing of his reputation, one of my friends walked up to him, innocent look on his face, and asked "Do you teach kitesurfing? It looks so much better than that boring windsurfing crap."
The look on Werners face was priceless. He did not know what to say.
To appease the windsurfers, my friend and I windsurfed for over 20 years. No offence intended.

Good to see how the windsurfing community takes care of these type of people. It classes them as legends

I love the fact that he's so good they had to get a picture of someone else actually windsurfing instead of standing around talking about it.

Maybe we can take it in turns calling his shop and asking. We can record them and post the best reactions up here.

It sounds like yet another Werner incident.

"
Suddenly I turn around and see the old windsurfer-geezer coming out of the sun straight at me on my six o'clock, full speed. I only just make it up in time up onto my boards and kite off into the opposite direction. If I hadn't been that quick, he would have straight run me over. "What's wrong with you?", I'm yelling at him. His reply: "FU** OFF!"

.. I meet the grey haired geezer again: "What were you doing out there?", he's asking me. "Waveriding, like you", I reply. "This is a windsurfers spot like I told you, you better stay away otherwise you'll get hurt".
"

You would think the Swiss and the Austrians would get along better...

The article doesn't talk about any particular breaking of rules, but just Werner warning her off Werner's waves.

It's stories like these that will in fact attract kitesurfers. Remember, the water is everyones resource and we should all look out for each other.

PS: it also pisses me off as an ex-windsurfer to encounter some of the biased and idiotic windsurfers venting their anger over kitesurfers. Sure, there are many idiot kiters - but we are all not like that!

Hey, you quoted my post, quoting the article... woo hoo! You could have at least posted a link (the windsurfing forum's not that far away) or shown it as a quote though. It took me hours to type all that out...

To think I bought a kiteboarding mag just to read that... oh my, the shame...

Well it goes like this.. Nat grew old and grumpy, thought he still shreds like a grommet, gave s0me dude sh!t and got his head punched in, then cried wolf on national TV, now does commercials for headache pills lol. Well I think that's how it went.

I've come across it, old dude that is. Just outright grumpy lol. Instead of sharing and enjoying the stoke with others they have brain freezes and carry on like some juvenile from back in their bullying school days.

The only reason Werner and the old fart I know don't get smashed is their age. But they will get it one day, just like Nat did, karma's a bitch. I prefer to use the smile and wave method, but if some chooses to be physical then that's what I will give it back better than I get.

lol. ^^^
Using age to find fault in someone is called age-discrimination.
In some situations ageism and it's disfavour is unlawful and penalties apply.
Age is to be respected, the knowledge and experience that comes with maturity needs to be treated with esteem.
You're no spring-chicken yourself, Sam. lol.
And if you're not getting old, you're dead dude.

I really got to stop reading this thread. The more I read it the more I want to take a trip up to Lancelin and meet this Werner dude for myself. He can`t be that bad can he?? Really really winds me up to hear about idiots like that! Not worth getting involved. I guess I have enough problems down my local to worry about somewhere else.

I would just go up there to check it out because its an awesome spot, good excuse for a daytrip out of Perth and the time I was there, the local kiters were really friendly, to the point of saying, jump in the ute and come on a downwinder with us. I know this Werner bloke has his little patch of beach, but I used the shower there at the end of the day and just kept off his spot. I can understand the logic in his row of buoys out the front of the beach, sort of like a safe learner zone but the aggressive behaviour on the waves? That sucks, its a huge spot, space enough for all there!

I think as a group we are responsible to support our member's safety.
Lets arrange a monthly kite surfing session there.

I think after 2 or 3 sessions every one will get used to us

If he still doing some crazy stuff, we know so many people riding "slingshot" kites.

Sounds like an over stayer. Some one should report him to the boarder patrol and let them know he is in Lancelin. Who the hell does this guy think he is.
