After speaking to a few of the boys that went up for the Tannum comp, the top 3 were as follows:
1) Paul Jackson
2) Zebb Peters
3) Darryl Christie
Good work Pauly you deserved it!
The prize money was generous too, $1000 1st place.
Apparently the way the comp was run was a Friday and Saturday Mambo style with everyone on the water. On Sunday they picked the top 10 riders from the previous days and had a 30 minute final. (Personally i think this would have work well as everything would have been thrown on the line in that 30minutes).
Lots of carnage did apparently go down with drags up the beach a regular occurance.
Can whoever went up there write a bit more about how the comp was ran.
Its good to know what works well and what doesnt, if we want to run a similar Mambo style comp here in WA as suggested by Gavin and others.
From my experiences at Mambo and what ive heard bout Tannum, its a great couple of days with a relaxed atmosphere. I am sure that we can organise a comp as gd, if not better, than the two East coast comps.

I went there with a few mates and the way the whole thing was setup was sick. The final was crazy, with a dedicated crew opting to stand right in front of the competitors as they busted out only a few metres from the beach. I´m suprised nobody was seriously hurt, I think it was Zebb and Paul Jackson both tried L3´s only a bees dick off the beach and from where I was standing it looked like their kites were skimming across spectators heads. Not a whole lot was landed but from a point of view of somebody who´s never been in a comp before I thought it was a great way to run it, super casual and the top 10 shoot-out was nuts and sent the crowd wild.
My only problem was the after-parties. Everything stops around midnight. I think a few people went to some of the locals houses but I was left wandering around the streets of Tannum with a couple of other non-locals looking for action before eventually passing out in the car.
All in all though, top riding, good blokes, hot chicks, **** beer.

Adam, last year was purely run as a free ride comp with the winners being the ones who gave the best impression over the whole weekend. This year we ran it a little bit differently with as you said a top ten shootout in the afternoon of the final day.the reason we ran it like this is because where else can you go and win a grand for freeriding?to the best of my knowledge there isnt anywhere.by picking the top ten riders over the weekend and throwing them in a final certainly put the pressure on for them to show who deserves the money as with the ladies which is a grand also.Yes there was a lot of carnage and not a lot being landed but they certainly put their bodies on the line. There are certain things that we will change for next year to make it better but i think that the basis of what we did this year worked well.
