pool thermometers over read, probably because of their casing trapping heat.

The pool thermometer is also probabily designed to work best in the water, like kitecrazy said the casing would trap the heat.

Also, a static air temp of 60oC may not burn, as air has a low heat transfer co-efficient, whereas a metal rod at 60oC would be much more likely to do so.

50.7 is still bloody hot though.

Just checked, looks to be very tume dependant (as you would expect), didn't get the air temp, but gives you an idea

Materials/time-temp 1 sec
uncoated metal 70
heavily coated metal 95
ceramics, glass, stone 86
plastics 94
wood 140

from here http://www.rospa.com/productsafety/articles/temperatures.htm

So, 60 would be fine to be in, well not fine really, quite unbearable but not burning.

Ever heard of a sauna? You can easily be 60 degrees heat, even 100. although the humidity is ALOT higher than hear. Still, 50.7 is just silly considering this:

Thats an interesting page, 53.1 at Cloncurry in 1889(unoffical),
reckon that should be broken soon.

Kiss the snow good bye

"The most remote, major inhabited city is either Honolulu, Hawaii or Perth in western Australia, depending upon one's definition of "remote" and "major." There are no settlements within 3800 km of Honolulu or within 2200 km of Perth larger than the 30,000 to 50,000 population range (Hilo, Hawaii and Geraldton and Kalgoorlie, Australia."

Now that's "useful info" Dave, explains a lot.............but maybe not.

Recon some of Kanga land is pretty remote....isolation (David Hicks) has its effects.

I kited in Saudi with air temps over 50. You can hardly breath when its that hot. We had guys who had problems with their bladders on their kites melting while they were in the car (when the guys were on the water kiting)

It reached an official 52 degrees shade temp for three days at Nummery Station in the Simpson Desert, when I was flying survey aircraft out of there a few years back. Spent 5 hours flying each day at 260 ft off the ground and a cockpit temperature of 47 degrees. Drank 3 to 4 litres of water each flight and didn't need to pee after I landed. 1 beer and I was off my tits! That was hot!
