I was wondering how the **** this whole "wakestyle is the only way to go, that trick was **** because the kite was 46 degrees above the water, dick tricks are gay blah blah ****ing blah" attitude came from? It seems more prevalent on the east coast...maybe thats a bit of generalisation...but **** me dead, who put this sort of crap into peoples heads?
I like both the new and the old (prefer trying the wakestyle stuff more though as well as surf). However, i just dont understand why people get slammed for doing something 'old school'. The very fact that someone does a trick that isnt a handlepass or sends the kite doesn't make them a kook as suggested by many a fag.
Bleed on?? pffft..Try **** off.
Kiting doesnt need that attitude. Sure it has a direction that it is heading but it doesnt mean anything from a year ago suddenly becomes gay.
Have fun, do your own thing but **** the gansta homeboy wakeboarder attitude off.

Angry dan,
I like it brutal.Homes style has no balls and looks spastic to me.

We have to face it, kiting is small and needs to attract more people. So kiting is paralleled and marketed in a mainstream way.Its easily recognized and more attractive to your normal fashionable punter.

Dont worry fashion comes and goes. Its evolution.

Stay well rounded,do it all and have your own fun,**** em. You will stand out more on the water if your flamboyant and not pretending to do another sport.

i am from the east coast.. iam not aware of the "gangster stuff", although i guess it exists.
i figure if you are out there for youself it does not matter what you do at all,old or new.as long as your not hurting anyone ,its all good.
on the other hand if you want to be a pro, i feel you will need to be able to do both old and new.
by the way what happened to the "deadman",i used to love seeing that trick but it seems to have gone

wakeboarders, ha. They aren't here for the long run, ignore them.

i saw a wakeboarder on the beach blowing up a kite with his mouth.

LOL!

A trick is all that it is... just a trick...

Many people get into the Kiteboarding wanting to be "just as cool" as this person they saw do this or that. Yes, doing tricks requires skill but I've got better things to accomplish in life other than being able to handle pass while upside down holding my board in my teeth. I love kiteboarding because of the feeling I get when I am rocketing along the water using only the power of nature. It does not take much to get to the level I'm at but my enjoyment factor is as high as the next man.

I disagree with the whole mentality that comes with mainstream tends where you're only worth watching/knowing unless you are awesomely skillfull/"fully sick" at the current activity that fashion has deemed popular. I much prefer to watch someone crap who is having a wicked time that someone good who is getting angry at themselves cause they cant perfect a triple kiteloop, threequater twist, quadurple backflip.

It doesn't matter how good you are anyway, there's always someone better. Its ALL about "attitude" and just having the time of your life.

Hey NJPorndude

"We have to face it, kiting is small and needs to attract more people. So kiting is paralleled and marketed in a mainstream way.Its easily recognized and more attractive to your normal fashionable punter."

Why????? I'ts good that Kiting is kinda small. You want more crowds?
This whole old school new school thing is so boring. There are too many people taking things/themselves waaay too seriously. The same thing happened to surfing in the early 1990's with the power surfing vs airs argument. Now it's all just surfing.

... yep - kiting newbies or those trying to learn new tricks are often particularly worth watching ...

I am from the east coast too and although there isn't much of the gangsta crap round here, there are still some young boys wandering around the car park in their baggy shorts showing more crack than my windscreen. You need look no further than the slongshot videos that have some amazing riding interspersed by boys pissing on each other and setting their pubes on fire. All harmless fun for the boys but it can be a pain in the arse when people bring that attitude to the beach. But I'd rather they spent their money and attitude on kites than cars....god I sound old

Hey ADS,
Im just stating the obvious
Kiteboarding wants bust into the familiar world of X sports.
Either way OLD or NEW the sport will grow.

Wake fashion is pickleforks, no leashed twoline low aspect kites?
That was current 4 years ago.
Fashion comes and goes dont stress dude,it just gets better.
If Australia is crowded, dont leave for a kiting holiday.
More people=more chicks kiting!

I would guess that most soul-kiters who just want to rip in the waves don't give a rats about the 'old school/new school' debate.

It's totally irrelevant when you are focused in on the bottom turn so you can snap hard into the pocket and set-up for that sweet cover-up.

The flatwater kite-punks can argue styles until they tire of it or until the next shift in fashion trends, whichever happens first.

Meanwhile, some of us just want to get on with the serious fun of ripping walls to pieces.

hey! as and oldie both in kiting and age terms, this debate seems worlds away from 90% of kiters.

the summer before last I was watching a kite comp at St Kilda. looking at balls, bill and co. doing their stuff, trying to kill spectators and the like, when the wind came up all kiter onlookers set up and left them to their private show.

it seems that when the choice is to watch or go and do your own thing we all know what matters.

On this day those of us that got into the inner harbour and just pulled big unfancy air had more spectators than the comp.

personally mark shinn's smooth control is impressive not someone having an epeleptic fit at the end of a string.

ps. the next week balls and co. were kiting at Torquay with us and when they just cruised with controlled transitions etc. they really displayed some talent.

best winds.

pps. I can remember, whilst doing my IKO course, some stuck up grommet being told to smarten up and be safe by not dropping his wipika classic on the beach dumping the bar and running to stop the kite taking out the sunbakers. maybe thats the career path to journalism we all missed. or the next new school trick.
