"So in Summary - In waves 4 lines are so superior " yeah teh kite can even flip inside out and you can ride that is cool - but i can also release my 5th whenever i want and still continue to have a session or back to the beach to reset it."

Naish Torch and Airush Vapour (c kites) have a huge amount of depower when you let go of the bar without using a stopper.

I had a couple of friends near killed from non stop death looping bow kites but I still think they deserve credit for the let go of the bar depower revolution and have saved many asses too. No way in hell I am trusting a bunch of pullies and bridles for high wind riding still though.

agree, I have seen bow kites bend into U shapes more than C-kites with 5th lines in 30 kts... why ....because bow kites have no support in the center unlike 5th line c-kites.......

each to their own, saw two people engage their one line flagging system on their bow kites down melville today... I am glad I have a 5th line !

Ride what suits your style of riding. Every kite has a downside, what that is depends on perspective.

The facts:

5-liners need nukewind, they suck at the bottom end.
A 5th line is that extra wheel you don't need.
5-liners are yesterdays kite.
The 5th line that passes thru the bar chaffs and snaps at the worst possible moment.
5-liners make for runaway kites.
5-liners bow-tie.
5-liners TANGLE-UP good. lol.
5-liners are harder to string-out.
5 lines cost more to replace.

agreed, kooks should really keep away from 5th liners .

as been said guys (n gals - although most girls with balls ride bows) that ride 5th liners are years ahead to the guys that ride 4 lines.

thats why im sh!t hot lol

who would of thought this topic would end up being "my kites better than yours"

A bow kiter would of had a helmet and a board leash and probably a surfboard to look fashionable.

Why oh why does (almost) every kiter have to prove that their chosen rig is superior to all others??? In Japon they call that bonsai peni..

At least some chaps acknowledge that it is horses for courses and no one design will tick off every application.

The rest need to take a big GTFOY tablet!

On a curious level why have Ozone gone without the 5th line in the new gear

BTW I fly old 5th line Cs but would be way happy to be one anything with 100% bar depower (4 linebow or 5th line hybrid etc) right now. Given the choice though, I would most likely go th 5th line hybrid, as I like 5th line as a concept/safety and would take my chances on the low-ish likelyhood of a bow tie for the benefits that go with 5th. But then that is just MHO now isn't it.

Merry chrissy to ALL kiters, er.. except the kn 'know-it-all-gotta-ride-wot-I-do-or-ya-kn-kook-#$@&-*&%$' tossers!! Yeh, ok - hope even you guys have some good breezes.

what the real plan is ,, that you have 20 knots of wind ,you get whatever kite is in your possesion and you go ride it !!!! if you have a good time !! that must be the right kite!!!!!
forget all the "mines" better than your shizzit ,, just get on with the addiction and get out there!!!

have a great & safe chrissy

My opinion (as owner of a torch - 5th line C kite and an 07 Ozone bridled flat kite);

Never heard anything about 5th liners being more prone to ripping in half. Everything gets shredded if the surf's big enough - maybe 4 liners more prone simply because you can't ditch everything and float them off the 5th in the sky....but then you'd be pressed to find 4 line C kites anymore....can't think of any off hand.

Trainer kites are really good for learning to fly a kite. They simply are. Watching a group of learners a couple of months ago proved to me, yet again, that they should be compulsory. Simply a safe way of learning - and makes it safer for everyone else too because reduces overall kookage on the water.

the 09 fuels and the flexi hadlow pro are both new 4 line C kites, (and maybe the airush generator?)

Swim? I always thought it was impossible to relaunch a 4-line c-kite and if you did the world would end unless of course it is the _________(insert personal brand) kite.

Always liked the 5th line as a flagging safety when it is windy, although it is a bit more effort than 4 line in terms of maintenance.

Well off topic now

Trainer kites on public beaches are annoying insects....
and the flyers are inconsiderate pests.
Families who are trying to enjoy the beach are made to feel uneasy.....
when they are constantly getting buzzed by the stupid things.
Go fly your toy-kites in a cow paddock, you don't need to be flying them on a beach.

boo hoo 'slave

many more people fly little kites on beaches than teabagging hopefuls, they also throw frisbees, footballs, volleyballs and cast fishing lines.

hope you're not getting too grumpy in your old age!

Hey Greenleader,
I'm guessing the only kite that you ever fly is the trainer kite, right ?
You never really fully graduated from the pole to the string, did you ?
We don't fly kites (any kites) on the beach at my local.....
it's bad mojo.
