Guy's,

Now that the wind has disappeared for the season, and the 16m just doesn't cut it. Does anybody have any experiances with setting up for powered sub 10knot kiting?

I have heard about people using longer lines, bigger boards, going finless as well as flying King size duna kites instead of LEI's!

Or maybe the Nags Head setup would be better?

In Jan we were up at Smiths lake sand had a few days with sub 10 kts winds .We commandeered a mates tri maran and had a blast for 3 days .we even had the kids flying the kite and steering the boat with very little experience .the other boats on the lake were not really having much fun.We also tried it and a dinghy .We were using a 19 m Venom.

I reckon a 16m is about as big a kite as offers performance within current designs,so wide boards are definitely the way to go and flat rockered too. The Airush Exile is worth a look at 46cm wide, should be loads of fun in 10kts with a 16.

if you want sub ten kts... ask puppetonastring as he claims to have ridden in 6 kts on a kite...... 6 kts...... i no.. it's unbelievable.. and that's at a spot with no tidal water movement.... I wouldn't bother getting a 16 either .. may aswell buy the biggest kite you can get, and that probably won't be big enough to stay upwind on your normal board you like using, in consistently under ten knot breezes 16's are usually ok for 12+ kts.. unless your on a surfboard

well in under 10knots, relaunch is usually pretty difficult, so a stable kite with HUGE lift is probably what u are after, so i'd say go with a Peter Lynn Phantom-18m, dont knock it till you tried it, i mean that.

If you are a LEI flyer with a "twinskins are crap" attitude,(just to let everyone know, i fly a Cabrinha Co2.) just ignore my post, but people who arent scared to try somthing different, try one, especially the Phantom if you want a kite more for lift/brute power, but the largest Venom is also a top kite apparently, and desinged for kitesurfing, but i havent flown one yet.

hope you find a kite that helps you get going in under 10knots, but i rekon there's no point at anything under 8, cause relanuch is almost impossible.
